Common question : Which oil grade to choose as per "HOT CLIMATE"?
The mechanic says thin oil will not work in hot climate of India.
In this video we try to first find out what is an oil grade, what does it mean and which oil grade is best for you.
Engine Oil is blood of any car engine. It not only lubricates, but also protects the engine and cools it down.
All oil bottles proudly say "GREAT PERFORMANCE", and we know that one oil is better than the other. It is not possible to figure out oil quality just by looking at bottle pictures, so we try to make a collective on various oils. Every oil is great but in a certain way!
We also explore the market and find out options in top quality oil, preferably from Gr 4 synthetics.

I would like to humbly add few points here. The temp gauge in MFD actually displays coolant temp. Some cars have a separate sensor for oil temperature. In most cars, MFD shows coolant temp. From what I have seen, Motul oils are mostly Group 3 blends. For example Motul X-Clean 5w30 is marketed as fully synthetic in India. But in Germany it is marketed as synthetic technology and not as "vollsynthetische". Mannol is not from Germany, its from Lithuania (not saying its bad, but they do have some bad marketing practices and complaints were raised in UK against Mannol). Surprised to see that you have Ravenol. Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 is my favorite oil, may be I will try Ravenol from you next time if it is not very expensive

Thomas : Refer to the frame, already added caption beforehand that its coolant temp in water cooled engines. Air cooled ones - Oil temp. Motul is a group 4 oil.

@@pulkitkumara Thanks for the clarification. Sorry I might have missed that. I think Motul oils are mostly Group 3 oils. If we look at the stickers pasted on the Motul products that are marketed in Germany, we dont see "vollsynthetische" mentioned in the bottle. The same Motul product marketed in rest of the world will have fully synthetic mentioned in the bottle, but not in Germany. If we do not see "vollsynthetische" in the bottle, then it is not Group4 only oil. Its usually a blend. But this does not mean its a bad oil. Spectroscopy of many Motul oils also indicate the presence of Group 3 in it. I am yet to see a Motul oil that has "vollsynthetische" written in it. I remember seeing few oils from Liqui Molly, Meguin, Rowe and Ravenol having "vollsynthetische" mentioned in the bottle

@@thomast4479 it is not compulsory to write Vollysynth in Germany, Thomas to call itself FS. It’s true only for German brands and not the “imported” ones. They are free to write in their own language. Motul openly says Fully Synthetic. I have been to German markets and seen it there. Plus I have many more sources few of whom work in the engineering dept of the company. So whatever I have said barring a few typo, is well thought of.

@@pulkitkumara Motul was actually sued in Germany for marketing Group3 oil blend as fully synthetic if I remember correctly. I believe they lost the case and finally they had to change to change it to "Synthese-Technologie". Not everyone may be following this, but in Germany this is mandated I believe

I have a Ciaz 1.3 diesel (BS 4). Have done 1.16 lakh KM and the car is absolutely fine with no complaints. Want to go for a full detailed service. Plz suggest the following: 1. Engine oil (5W30 - 40 fully synthetic). Manual says 5W30 is recommended. 2. Gear oil 75W80 3. Brake fluid 4. Coolant 5. Engine flush 6. Injector cleaners 7. Coolant flush 8. Gear oil flush 9. Engine oil additive 10. Gear oil additive 11. Diesel additive I shall get all filters from MGP. Can I buy these from Driverse as well?

5W30 - ACEA A5/B5 this is what manual says for engine oil. I could find AMSOIL Signature series online which confirms this standard but not sure if that will be genuine.

Hello ....sir i am following your channel from quite a long time I also own a Maruti brezza 2024 and i currently done my 10000 serive which my older brother took car to service center where he opt for synthetic oil ....and they put iocl 0w40 and that too 3.6 liter when in saw the bill i call them and they send a pic of service manual mention that in brezza they have to put 3.6 liter and they have updated guidline from maruti and service manual is different owner manual...when in asked about grade they told in synthetic they either 5w30 or 0w40 from company which they put in all brezza i think which they done service..and also the thing i checked dipstick the oil is proper no over or underfilling ...i am confused plzzz reply ...is 0w40 is proper or not fro 15k engines

The Nexa SC had big drum of Castrol Edge 5W40, and Semi/Mineral oil for 0W20, I know Edge is a good oil but I rejected it because it's thicker, Plus Mannol 7198 was API SP and GF6 grade which is one step higher then the recommended 0W20 API SN. I almost went with Idemitsu IFD7, or Helix Ultra or Mobil 1 advance but Ester!, because in my bikes I'm using Motul 7100 that got ester, so you know. Plus other brand doesn't have 0W20 Grade. More over Castrol Edge have lots of varieties like LL, Euro, M, EC. Confusing. Hope you'll explain all these, APIs, Grade IV oils available in India and ranking them in future video. Subscribed! There are many important points pending to be discussed about oils I will try to do that sometime. However judging an oil by standards is like telling yourself which Dal Makhni tastes better by the ingredients. Final taste is what’s matters

We know that viscosity decreases with increase in temperature. So, suppose in 5w30 oil, at running temperature of engine the oil viscosity should be less than 5. But it is 40. Why is it so?

Yep. You are right. These 2 are measured differently. First is Dynamic, which is basically how the fluid behaves with a solid surface, and the other is how fluid behaves within itself. Do subscribe.

5 and 40 indicates the behavior of oil at sub zero and operating temp of engine. Multi grade oils are supposed to remain thin even at sub zero temperatures. 5 indicates that the oil will not thicken at sub zero temperatures and can flow easily. 40 indicates that oil will remain sufficiently thick with at the operating temp of engine. Higher number indicates more thickness and lower number indicates thinness at sub zero temperatures

Racing oils are best suited for track use where engine is under severe operating conditions. Racing oils typically contains less detergents and dispersants and more friction modifiers. So racing oils wont last long like regular oils and will degrade quickly. Using racing oils for 10k km is risky unless the oil has manufacturer approvals... Having said that, I always wanted to try Ravenol RUP 5w40...

Sir i own a triber rxz which runs around 2500 kms per month .company recommends 15w40 engine oil .company service guys put 15w40 castrol pro a3/b3 mineral oil.. I checked it online and offline but unable to find this oil ..local store tells me that 15w40 is for diesel as on cans it is written diesel engine a3b4 etc ..and they recommend to put synthetic 5w30 or 5w40 .. My main concern is fuel ecomnomy ..as triber petrol is just 1ltr engine so i am not bothered on performance ..only fuel efficiency and smooth running is what i want ..pls suggest engine oil

One more thing sir I add two grades of oil to make my desired grade For example my bikes needs 1 litre of 10w40 oil But since where I live summer temperatures reaches nearly upto 46 So I use 500ml of 10w50 and 500ml of 10w50 Resulting in 10w45 for summer A bit thicker oil What is ur take on this P.S , I like to experiment around with different brand and viscosity engine oils

Buddy the best oil is the one that I call the costliest oil and I used in my personal car. Already shown. You can play the video again and see. This question has a diff answer for everyone. Not sure if Ceratec is really needed if you are already using a good oil. From what I understand, it is a solid suspension based boron additive. Esters are blended with base oils to improve additive solubility, lubricity for seal conditioning etc. Both are different...

In oil grade the upper number is also very important. I know from personal experience. Once I use 10w 40 in 10w 30 recommended engine and the oil did not reach in adequate quantity to the camshaft and destroyed it.

Absolutely true. I too say the same, but temperature correlation matters more with the first one simply because you cannot preheat an engine, but can cool down an engine.

Sir these are rating labs, even you can open 1. Oils are biggest scam, be it petrol taxes or crude prices or anything. Aap khud samajhdaar ho. Japanese rating firms are also quite reputed otherwise. But do these things really "matter"?

Better to add a diesel fuel additive than adding 2T oil... 2T oils may contain additives such as zinc which may cause issues with injectors

idemitsu is not in the list because we covered only the best of the best as of now. Idemitsu does (maybe it does) not make premium ones. We missed many others which we even provide. Like Addinol... Motorex... The video would have been 50 mins long.

If I were to choose, ECF or Synthoil. It also depends on usage. SS is very high life oil as compared to the counterparts.

The temperature gauge in instrument cluster is for coolant temperature and not oil temperature. Most of the cars today have coolant temperature gauge. Cars in old days used to have oil temperature gauge but now only coolant temperature is provided.
