Love seeing an XJ on the trails. I picked up a 98 XJ for 1500 this year. Got a locker for the rear and have plans for this winter. It's nice to see what can be done on a budget.

Disabled Air Force veteran here, and I want that red one! It would be so great to take the wife and daughter out in the desert in to get a break from the current situation. Cool series. I do think this makes a good point for front locker first. If your front locker had failed instead of the rear you wouldn't have made it as far and you would have had less control while doing it. There are only a few times where a locked rear and an open front do better than a locked front and open rear. Plus with the rear most times you can get away with a good factory posi.

Seen it several times over the years. If you're only going to have 1 axle locked, the front is the one to have. Nice work beating on the 3wd and making it work.

Either 1 is better than none, but if I was only locking 1 axle to start I'd choose the front for what we do. Maybe BJ will do a future tech/comparison video to test it. 😆

Nice driving MATT! for me the best kit that the rig can have is the one between the seat and the steering wheel! :):) i´m a ZJ owner but i like Xj a lot to!! but you can say thanks to that pack of leaf springs!! they give so much traction!!!! When you weld a diff preheat it with torch use 7018 stick weld or dual shield mig put 3 beads in each side of the gear top and bottom 200 amps on last pass

@BustedKnuckleVideo standard mig weld does not get the penatration or weld disposition you want it will break use stick or dual shield mig (it burns super hot ) or you could tig it but that would be hard because of how it down in a groove If you don't know what dual shield mig is it's a special wire i like Blue Demon E71T-1/1M X .035 I use standard 75/25 gas It's used in buliding structural buildings steel should be minimin .125 thick as you will burn straight threw it it don't work well on lower settings I am 44 yrs old i got 30 years welding experience things I weld can not break or people get hurt I am certified up to aerospace I got things in outerspace I welded

XJs don't need much to make them capable. I just wanted to show anyone can build one. I am not an expert fabricator or jeep guru by any means.

Was loving it, I had a 96 sport XJ ,, put a lot of money in it, and it got stolen with all my tools.. about 13000 total . Never got a thing back.
