Good video I have two of them given to me. About to fix them both! Most people don;t know this but you are supposed to start the pressure washer with your finger on the trigger. This helps to keep the pressure from building up in the washer. You can pull the cord with one hand very easily. When you continue to pull the cord with pressure in the washer it will eventually hydro lock and then lock up causing all kinds of problems. Turn the water on, keep you hand on the gun trigger to release the pressure and you won't have this problem in the future. A machine used correctly will run a long time with regular servicing!

@@AverageJoes4u Logic, though I know what you mean... luck on some days seems with time and resources. Currently last left off wondering if I can see the key on the shaft without removing. Definitely need a flashlight to look down into better since isn't like the B&S's I'm used to working with to verify key isn't sheered. Guessing will be a lash or rocker arm issue. Kind of thinking if a rocker arm issue... I'll weld to repair for some reason... I guess since I just got the EG3500 running. Not quite there yet... though valve cover removal will be next once I grease the metal to keep the rust at bay. Once I get the video up... I'll link your video as well in the description.

@@jafinch78 I was able to see enough of the key to tell it wasn't broken. My next thought after that was the valves were off. Even after trying to adjust the valve and still having a ton of slop, I still didn't put it together. I almost missed it. Just happened to catch the light just right and I saw the crack. Never thought about welding it. If I'm not mistaken, I ordered a new Honda rocker for like $8. Maybe you'll get lucky and the lash is off. One can hope right. Lol. Also, I appreciate the link. I'll be checking out your channel shortly.

@@AverageJoes4u Thanks again for the insight. Wound up being the exhaust rocker arm cracked almost all the way through and does look like on the bottom/engine side. I'm debating the welding now that appears to maybe be a cadmium coated part... so not thrilled about welding around that. Also, I was wondering like say if intentionally designed to be the weak point like a key is designed so to prevent the valve from having issues as well as the cheaper material cam... so basically is an easier part to replace for a repair. I'll check around tomorrow to see who has what and if nothing... I might still weld. Give er a few as I'm just uploading the series of videos regarding without editing since a little busy at the moment with chores.

Stuck Valve cover - a little, very carefully applied heat (watch the plastic!!) is your friend. No brass, lead or plastic hammer? Go ahead and use your CARPENTER'S beater - but just use a short hardwood block to transmit and distribute the beating over a larger area. Little to no destruction from the CARPENTER'S beater if you do that. In the beginning you mentioned one of the 3 things you were considering was a sheared crankshaft shear 'pin'. Lawn mower - yes - since they stop suddenly due to rocks, stumps and other 'stuff' in the grass - but probably not a pressure washer. The Harbour Freight hose pliers were good to see - I use them ALL the time. - Joe -

Its very common that those rocker arms crack, seen that before. Yeah, the stud for the coil could have been tightened with a crescent wrench. I think you ment that at the end as well as how you used the paper. I could tell you were rushing. FYI Honda suggests replacing the valve cover as they know they get bent removing them. Rather than using a thicker metal, they went cheap on those. I use a heat gun on them first to make it easier to remove them. Generally when that cover has been removed more than twice, its no good any ways. I actually keep one extra handy because I hate waiting. I also keep a couple valve arms in my supplies because the cracked arm is common on those. I hate waiting on parts.
@AverageJoes4u
@AverageJoes4u 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The heat gun is an awesome idea. Never thought of that. I'll definitely try that next time. For the cost of the parts, you're right. It makes sense to have some sitting around. It's generally not an issue for me because with work, it always takes me a week to do something that should take 2 hours. I appreciate the feedback.

I appreciated your determined (and successful!) effort to get that rocker cover off. I'd like to see you get out a stuck emulsion tube, cos the only vids I've seen has been where it plops down easy even if with a slight encouragement from above using a small Allan key as a lever. I've put my little used carb in a sonic bath of water, washing up liquid and vinegar for 20mins at 50° of course with plenty of carb cleaner spray before and after, and it is STUCK. I can get a cleaner wire to poke through to the top but those multiple side holes need examining. I've also seen plenty of people shrug and say, if it's stuck, leave it, it doesn't matter. Right.
@AverageJoes4u
@AverageJoes4u 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. To be honest, up until the last video of the generator, I've never had a tube that wasn't frozen in and it might be a coincidence but that was a Tecumseh. I always leave them in and hope for the best. It usually works out okay.

John, Very light heat, then PB Blaster, then light shock (through a short full diameter dowel rod) with the smallest ball peen hammer you own. Breaks loose the Brass / Aluminum oxidation, lubes the contact surfaces a little and Life is Good. BUT - if life throws you a sucker punch get a 3 " drywall screw and gently, gently screw it into the 'do nothing' large end of the tube and carefully use it like an easy out. Leaving the uncleaned tube in is the wimpy choice of the irresolute --- and fixes nothing.

I've seen some other videos on these gcv190s with the same problem. I am working on a Simpson 3000psi pressure washer with gcv190. I thought it was hydro locked with fuel. After repairing the recoil I tried to start it after I got the water hooked up and it nearly ripped my hand off. So I checked the valves and compression release and they were ok so I rebuilt the carburetor, I tried it again and it pull the recoil rope right out of the handle . So a call to a couple places and to Honda and apparently the compression release mechanism are defective on many of these gcv engines. I have had two of these that are this way and now Honda says these compression release are about two months out because they come from China

The zip tie is not as visual as say a long screwdriver or a 6" 3/8" extension. So you know how much easier it is being that this is a video watching a screwdriver or an extension going up and down so you can demonstrate the piston more visually being at the top of the stroke.

The way to fasten that coil that works for me is to put in that first bolt loosely, stick in the business card and turn the flywheel until the coil lines-up with the magnet on the fw. The coil is then pulled towards the fw and I thighen that first bolt, turn the va past the magnet, pull out the card and put the cover back on along with that front bolt that screws in that second coil hole. Bingo !
