How many times I got stopped by the scalies in Aussie. Them and the cops are much of a muchness. Sometimes you get a fresh-out-of-the-academy arsehole with a point to prove, sometimes you get a squaddie with a bit more professionalism and life's wisdom. I treat them mostly all the same. Pulled in? Full stop at the stop sign and books out. There are only ever two things they're after. Logbook violations and weights. Anything else is a bonus😂. Threats I don't respond to, because if they're going to do you, they're going to do you, and your opinion doesn't make the square root of f**k all difference to them. Just keep a level head, a civil tongue in your head and measure your words. Worst case they ground you and you get a bit of shut-eye😂. That said, I nearly got arrested once in South Australia because I got profoundly pissed off with a bastard who dobbed me in for "drug driving" when I was only trying to let him past. There is no immunity from fuckwits.😂

They even put coaches over and put them over the bridge looking for axle overload. I hope you new job goes really well and we shall miss the Ovlov. All the best Chief.

That was near enough the same experience as I had with VOSA, when I was pulled over at some services on the M5. They were extremely pleasant and friendly. Your video brought back some nice memories. Not all inspectors were that good, or experts at their job. In about 1985 I was stopped by the police on the A303, just as I came off the M3. As the police officer approached my cab, in my nearside wing mirror, I could see an old man in a white coat getting under my trailer, smoking a pipe. I directed the officer to tell that man to move away immediately. The officer looked startled but then realised he had stopped a petrol tanker. He quickly moved the old man away from my truck and apologised to me before waving me on. Truck - Leyland Buffalo with an L12 pulling 32 tons. Loud, hot in summer and a plastic driver’s seat with no springs.

Motor wasn’t taxed since it had been of the road, the policeman mentions this, then they bring up a law they had back then. If they found a certain amount of water in your air tanks they would nick ya. Fella went and got all the water out. Still air in the tank (about 8 bar) the policeman decides to open up the tap on the tank, all that pressure shot the water in his measuring jug slat on his face, my dad got away with it.

@hffp1 The driver's then need to make sure that they're vehicle is serviceable for the motorway and doesn't pose any risk to people's lives. The rules are there for a good reason, because people have been killed
@jcreedy204 жыл бұрын
@@mcfrosty8739 True that, but from experience it doesn't quite work that way. Often I have found myself pressured by management, into using vehicles that are technically not faulty but have issues that are skimming the law or are intermittent and will become illegal once said fault repeats. There is also time critical pressure in many jobs that make you rush the checking of the vehicle for example. If it were me, it should be up to the management/ engineering to ensure it is 100% serviceable and then you do your own walk around when you take the vehicle, but it should be on someone else's head unless a fault develops whilst driving or out on the road for a few days and you blatantly ignore it. Having a chunk missing out of the tyre can happen at any time, like just before you get pulled over. There needs to be some common sense regarding things like that, from what I have seen, some use common sense when inspecting vehicles and some don't, they just go by the book. Those who I have seen use common sense are out to get your company normally because they know about how certain companies can be and often drivers are pressured. Inspectors who don't use common sense, just throw the book at the driver because it makes there job simple, presumably? Just bare in mind that some drivers have had very different experiences with very different companies and circumstances. Not everyone has had the blessing of working for a company or boss that looks after you, and does things properly. Some have worked for companies where there are time restrictions and the absolute minimum of maintenance just so they can meet there expenditure targets for the season.
@mcfrosty87394 жыл бұрын
@@jcreedy20 I agree with that and there needs to be action taken to stop it. Unfair for the company to whip the employee and conduct poor practices which are out of the driver's control only for said driver to be punished for it. In that case I would just say fuck the company and find a different job. Granted, not always that simple but still, can't be encouraging that sort of behaviour from a company. If their margins are that small that their trucks are barely legal then they should be forced out of business. I work for one of the largest airports in the UK and we take keeping the state of the vehicles (busses, GSE equipment etc) very seriously so I find it pathetic that other companies simply don't care about people's safety on the road

I lived in a Town many years ago, where there is a bus stop at the bottom of a hill. A truck coming down, the brakes failed. It ploughed into and killed three people at the bus stop. The vehicle had gone months without checks. We endure regulations because there is always some fool somewhere who thinks they can cut corners with no consequence.

That's interesting I thought just get on the scale than just stop and wait for the full weight but you got to do a slow roll to get the actual weight interesting !!
@111jacare3 жыл бұрын
Brad Haughton: The instrument that is used here for enfocement is Weigh In Motion (WIM). Personal preference is for a multiple deck weighbridge, as you can get all of your weights while you are stopped. Driving over, no matter how slow, introduces errors from suspensions, rims, shock absorbers, engine speed variations and even ground movement from the vibration of the vehicle driving over.

@michealsilezin21214 жыл бұрын
Thats Very lucky, i think i had around 5 pulls and most of them were on crossing the scotland england border and i think manchester area..there was 1 pull in wales -> vosa got a whiff of drivers using tacho breaks while being loaded and staying in the truck(where there was no use access to canteen/food) so technically its poa...i didnt know they had no canteen/rest area but I never allow TMs or the transport office to "manage" my breaks and my idea of a break is uninterrupted with an ability to use my spare time freely/access to food/no pressure from others wanting the truck to move -> so this loading business did not fit my criteria of break and I kept to the rules which saved myself a ticket when they picked me off rolling off out the company. Sneaky, just like coppers hiding in bushes waiting for an excuse to get you 😒 glad im out of the industry too, though i can teach cpc courses and its better being taught by someone who has a Tshirt of 11 years stretch from machinery, abnormal loads, liquid flamables to international work. Its been a meditating experience for which im grateful.

Its mad all the grey areas in the hgv world I'm a mot tester as well and I test Big coaches that are not used for public use so they become a class 5 which means a 21 year old kid could be checking a massive heavy vehicle to make sure it's safe on the road which personally I think that is scary.

Karrier Bag ya talk bollox man circus and showman’s transport was always being a target for the Ministry in what ever name they called themselves at the time just because they was exempt from MOT’S don’t mean they was exempted from stop checks in 35 year in working for various showmen I’ve been stopped 20 times seven checked midweek on ground even customs and excise checking fuel in the tanks ! 98% of the time the kit I’ve had has passed inspection never a major problem just silly things sorted and checked off And now the rules have changed all showman’s HGV’s must have a test on them no exemptions

@@circustruckin well I was obviously very lucky, I am not talking bollocks I ran my own touring circus for 25 years. Got pulled twice by police so they could get my details to book us for police events and got pulled by armed police in city of london when carrying a load of pyros, fuses, powder etc but NEVER by VOSA ( DVSA now). Was followed by them and when passing stop checks / weighbridges honestly they always turned away, on the A27 on the A23 A303 A1 A19 etc etc.....

I think you made that reverse look far easier than it is. Well done.. From an ex professional driver. I amazed how far away the traffic stopped.. How polite and unpressurised of them.. 7:24 The metal crane grabber just shook it's head. I bet they had their breakfast and java? Do they have any control over the foreign lorries? I found it as easy as pie delivering around London when I had the twin domes of Wembley stadium for a landmark.. Must look odd to any Americans or Australians watching this that the trucks do not have bonnets out in front? Best of luck in the new job..

So much respect to drivers of the big rigs. I normally have a trailer anytime I'm on the road but I think I would lose it in a big truck. Kinda like claustrophobia because of size vs road design and the "invincible" drivers that seem to own the road...

It was scary and took all day waiting for someone to come and unload enough stuff for me to get re weighed and allowed to go. I still had most my drops to do still. normal 14 - 16 hour shift in a van l. I quit 2 years ago now I feel much less stressed but the company did put me through HGV2 before I left.

Being Owner/ and operator over here in the States this was an intriguing vlog. Im a bit of, what we call an outlaw, so watching you following the vosa made me impatient. I was thinking i wouldve just kept circling the round about or kept straight when they took the get off, they've had to chase me. I wonder what type of citation that would had rendered? Lol which is something I've made DOT(Department of Transportation) do before. Thank goodness you didnt fuel up yet. Anytime i had to go to those type of customers i always top off fuel because for some reason they never seem to care if im only at a quarter of a tank of fuel. Well Kev congrats and good luck on the new endeavor! Cheeeeerrrrrrsssss 😁
@pompeymik3 жыл бұрын
They'd find something for definite if you didn't comply, people that start the conversation with " don't you have anything better to do?" Will have their tacho records for the passed 2 months pulled, and they'd fine you £200 for each infringement, including slight overspeeds drown hills etc, and they'd make extra sure they find something wrong with the rig! It can get expensive if you don't pretend you appreciate what they're doing!

I’m surprised he didn’t ask for the waybridge ticket from where you loaded. When I was a LGV driver the first thing I was asked when I was stopped by the ministry was if I had gone on a weighbridge with the load I was carrying. Lucky you were pulled before fueling up because once fueled, you’d have been well over! Canning town! I worked for a Global Indusrtial Gas company who had a yard in Canning town. It doesn’t seem to have changed much in the 20 + years since I’ve been there! Heathrow and that truckstop was MY stomping ground, a long time ago!

Echoing this. If you speak to them properly and civilly you probably wont even be in trouble

Kev, You mentioned a 13ft height limit when driving to the Canning Town drop off. that may be the Northern Outfall sewer bridge at West Ham Tube Station, I worked on the bridge replacement back in 1962 during the bad winter. Nothing could be done about the low height limit as sewer had to follow grade. After tipping and passing the ambulance garage, you let a car through a narrow spot theres a nice hole in the wall café, if you need a sarnie and coffee. Good luck in your new job, I hope the grass is greener.
