My wife has just ordered an Orion smoker today so looking forward to trying it out. Btw, instead of dipping your injector back into the bottle of Dr Pepper after it's been in the meat, it might be better to just pour some out into a cup or glass then suck up from there. Just a bit concerned about contamination in case someone was to drink from the bottle.

Nope just throw it away ! Congratulations on the Orion ! I’m sure you will enjoy using it !

I hate throwing anything useable out so I guess that's why I didn't think of that 'solution". 😂. Still waiting to hear that it's being shipped.

I looked another vid on this cooker. The guy used an 8lb. roast. Cooked it for the recommended time as you did. Your 10lb. roast appears to come out a lot better. His looked overcooked and as dry as a bone. Yous looks deliciously better. Congrats to you. I as others are wondering. It looks like charcoal lighter was used. Does it get into the taste of the roast. That is why I never use lighter fluid.

The Orion is the only time I use lighter fluid. The meat is completely separate from the charcoal so it doesn’t matter. Thanks for checking it out

Next time try starting with 30% less charcoal, then add the additional charcoal after 2 hours and cook for total of 4.5-5 hours. Should yield more tender, much better pull, and no less juicy. I accidentally let one go 8 hours once and discovered you cannot over cook pork butts in the Orion. Hotter = better for butts in the Orion, I can "pull" mine with cheap plastic utensil forks. Also, if you are doing multiple butts stacked vertical on the racks you can trim a lot of the fat off the lower ones and make cleanup easier, will end up with more edible "bark" on the outside of the trimmed butts.

Did you have to put lighter fluid on that... not that it matters since it is on the outside... just curious. I saw this at Cabells on sale for 99... was wondering if it was worth it. The pork came out good, but did it taste like it was coming out of the oven? Take care CnS.

+View to a grill smokes on its own juices. If you add wood chips around the drip pan inside you get good wood smoke also.

Been looking at one of these, but not seen any videos, thank you for the video, just ordered one. Did you light all of the Charcoal?
@CuffNStuffBBQ4 жыл бұрын
Dutchy Cooking yes and the only tip I can give is stir the coals after about 4 hours and you made have to add a few for a long cook.

I thought that the pan in the bottom was a water pan so grease that drips from the meat into this pan will NOT smoke and go back up to the meat. But I suppose if you don't put liquid into it then grease dripping onto it might smoke back up. I don't know.
@CuffNStuffBBQ6 ай бұрын
If you put water in the bottom outside tray you will have some very long cooks ! If you mean the inside drip pan you didn’t see anyone put charcoal in it during this video !!!
@CuffNStuffBBQ6 ай бұрын
Try it it will. I was afraid at first it would cause a burned taste without liquid but it doesn’t.

Great video, how much did that pork shoulder weigh for that 3 1/2 hour cook time?
@CuffNStuffBBQ4 жыл бұрын
Angel you can expect an 8 to 10 lb butt to take 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours if you let it rest. Thanks for watching !

CNS BBQ, I’ve literally only heard of Orion cookers today. So, naturally I headed to KZbin to learn more. I’m intrigued by the cherry Dr Pepper. It seems to me if you did the rub all over first and then inserted the cherry Dr Pepper through the fat cap, it wouldn’t leak out. Doesn’t all the Dr Pepper drain out of the butt when you flip it over? Thanks for a very informative video!
@CuffNStuffBBQ3 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t you are forming pockets in the meat when you inject and although you might loose a small amount most will remain. Thanks for your question !
@carynborland14 жыл бұрын
What kind of wood chips did you use? Or did you? Also how much water do you put in the drip pan?
@CuffNStuffBBQ4 жыл бұрын
Don’t put any water in the drip pan. It is up to you what wood chips you use. Sprinkle around the outside of the drip pan. The bag you can get from a big box store works just fine. Doesn’t take a lot. Thanks for the questions !
