I remember in middle school a girl transferred to my school and she spoke no english, and wore a hijab, and traditional clothes from her culture. People were refusing to sit next to her, and no one would talk to her. I was a depressed loser who had no friends so I felt like maybe I could be friends with her so we both wouldn't be alone, I learned some Arabic to be able to talk to her, I wasn't very good at it but she understood, she was only there for a little bit of school, but I'm glad I met her.

Im a white christian but ive always had muslim friends and I really understand and respect islam and the importance of hijabs to them. Third grade was the first time i had to stand up for a muslim girl when all the other kids were making fun of her telling her that if shes not bald she should take off her hijab i went over and told them that she was obviously not bald because you could see the big bun outlined underneath her hijab and that she could wear whatever she wanted to. Later on that day it was only me and her in the classroom because it was bathroom break and she actually took off her hijab when it was just us she was not my friend tho and im pretty sure shes one of like the leaders of her friend group now (im in 11th grade now the muslim girls kind of stick together in a big group now since high school started which is really a power move imo) but I often pass her in the halls and wonder if she remembers me. We were only like 9 so i didnt fully understand yet plus i was really shy and insecure as a kid i didnt have friends for most of elementary school so it was a big deal for me but i do now know how important it is to wear the hijab and to cover their hair. ofc this should be expectected behavior to stick up for people since its disgusting this happens at all im not looking for praise by sharing this story I just wanted to share her story because to this day it is def a core memory of mine. When i got into middle school my group of friends consisted of people of color mostly muslims and/or people of color and I learned so much more about islam and saw the things they had to go through. I hate that this happens to muslim women and im really glad that i was fortunate enough to have them as my friends as because of them im not ignorant and know that this behavior is not ok and that racism is most definitely still real unlike many white people I know of that constantly deny it

Most men are decent people. It's just the Internet likes to paint them with a bad brush. Always boggles my mind that people think most men are pro harassment towards women. Men who harrass and harm women do it when other men aren't around. Because men who harrass/harm women (at least in the UK) are cowards who are scared of real men because they know most men would not accept that cra I remember being on a packed train with my brother and caught him staring at this guy who raised his fist at a woman. As soon as the guy saw my brother; he lowered his fist and went all quiet. I could see the anger on my brothers face and he didn't even know the people. I remember him telling me that if he hits her, my brother will do worse to him.

Why do you support that belief? It implies that women who don't cover their hair/faces/bodies are somehow allowing their beauty to be ruined or tainted. It promotes a shallow idea of modesty; it sexualises and commodifies and dehumanises women and girls; and it erases all prospects of individualism. Empty platitudes like this one are extremely harmful when the one who is being oppressed starts to justify his or her own enslavement.
@dreg90018 жыл бұрын
