History - construction & ownership
Pullmantur Cruises S.L. is a Spanish cruise line headquartered in Madrid. It started operations in the late 1990s as an offshoot of Madrid-based namesake travel agency "Pullmantur". Through its parent company, Pullmantur Cruises was purchased in 2006 by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Pullmantur offers high-quality, high-value cruising with a strong Spanish-Mediterranean flair. Company's hold on the Spanish cruise market started when the founded in 1971 Madrid travel agency Pullmantur, chartered ms Seawind Crown (Premier Cruises) in the late 1990's.
The 73,937-ton, 2,390-passenger cruise ship Pullmantur Monarch is the second of Royal Caribbean’s three Sovereign-class ships - sister ship ms Sovereign and Majesty of the Seas. MS Monarch was built in 1991 at Chantiers de l’Atlantique (Saint-Nazaire, France). At the time of completion, with her 73,941 GT, Monarch of the Seas was one of the largest cruise ships in the world.
In 2007, ms Monarch became the first of the major cruise ships in the world captained by a woman, Karin Stahre Janson (Sweden). She was the only one until 2010. The British Sarah Breton then took charge of P&O MS Artemis. On April 1, 2013, the ms Monarch cruise ship was transferred from RCI to Pullmantur Cruises and joined her sister, MS Sovereign ship, after 22-year service for Royal Caribbean International.
Cruise itinerary program
Pullmantur Monarch itinerary program is based on Caribbean round-trip cruises from Aruba, Colombia, Curacao, Panama, Mexico and Venezuela.
Prior to being retired from RCI fleet, the Monarch ship was sailing 3 and 4-days cruises to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral, Florida. Beginning April 27, 2013, ms Monarch is sailing year-round Pullmantur cruises in the Southern Caribbean.

Pullmantur Monarch offers a total of 1193 staterooms in 15 categories, of which 445 Inside, 63 Balcony and 63 Suites. The largest aboard Monarch are the Royal Suites (64.24 m2).
Entertainment options - Fun & Sport
MS Monarch boasts two shuffleboard courts and an outdoor basketball court. Two salt water pools, full-sized, are among the other amenities. After the 2003 refurbishment, a rock-climbing wall, a conference center, Asian-fusion restaurant, a Latin Bar, Seattle’s Best Coffee and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream were added. The spa and fitness center, as well as the kids’ area were enlarged.
In many ways the Pullmantur Monarch ship offers a nice compromise, mixing some of the signature Royal Caribbean fun facilities with the Pullmantur's more toned-down, quieter escapes. Well-supported, the ship secures a good introduction to cruising for first-timers. For more experienced travelers, MS Monarch secures an inexpensive, dependable and satisfying vacation.

Great memories of this beautiful ship in which we lived 5 weeks in 3 Caribbean cruises and 1 Transatlantic cruise. There were no Corona virus outbreaks in it (we sailed on its 2nd to last cruise) but it has not survived the pandemic. Today it arrived to its final resting place for dismantling. Wonderful memories remain... It wasn't as big as Royal Caribbean ships but it certainly had personality. It will be sorely missed in latinamerica.

The Pullmantur Cruises fleet always looked immaculate and it's an absolute shame that the company no longer exists after going into administration due to the Coronavirus pandemic 😥 The MONARCH was beached at Alagia, Turkey on the morning of the 22 July 2020, her sister ship SOVEREIGN is currently at anchor awaiting her turn. To say that hearing the news of her beaching has made me feel very upset is an absolute understatement 😢 The Coronavirus pandemic is having a huge impact on the entire cruise industry and I'm afraid to say that many more vessel's will be joining the Pullmantur Cruises fleet at the scrapyards at Alagia, Turkey and Alang, India 😭 Carnival Cruises CARNIVAL FANTASY is also on route to Alagia, Turkey where she is due to arrive in the next few days 😭😭😭😭😭
