First of all, thank you for your videos! Regarding Warfarin and anti-platetlets (Aspirine) . We do see clients that prescribed with both. In terms of NCLEX, is that a contraindication /teaching to avoid taking Aspirin with anti-coagulants? Thank you again!

Hello Nurse Parker you mention that the patient with P.E should avoid aspirin,yet aspirin is a anti platelet which reduces chances of clot formation,kindly clarify that for me?
@LevelUpRN2 жыл бұрын
When the patient is on a blood thinner (such as warfarin) for a PE, they have an increased risk of bleeding. If they were to take aspirin, that would further increase their risk of bleeding. Does that make sense? -Cathy

Does a PE cause pain in the lung when taking a deep breath?
@LevelUpRN2 жыл бұрын
It can; patients can have constant chest pain, chest pain with inspiration, or in some cases no pain at all! That's why it's important to do a full clinical evaluation and not only look for one particular symptom!

If the D-dimer is normal could there still be a clot?
@LevelUpRN2 жыл бұрын
Certainly; in most cases, if there's a clot there will be an elevated D-dimer, however not in all cases. The D-dimer should only be used as one component of the clinical workup!
