It's more like a song for the 48%. According to a 2013 study of British Class, 48% of people are "working class" or lower. That's all your electronics technicians, care workers, cleaners, van drivers, electricians, bar staff, chefs, nursing auxiliaries and assistants, assemblers and routine operatives, elementary storage occupations, customer service occupations, joiners, caretakers, leisure and travel service occupations, shopkeepers and proprietors, and retail cashiers. The best lyrics in the history of music and lyrics. Even without the music, it's a great piece of modern poetry.

Being a poor kid in the 90s who lived in a council house, this song for me like many other people was so easy to relate to. That was the great thing about Britpop, the commercialised, manufactured rubbish today is so fake, it has no meaning.
@tonybates78705 жыл бұрын
This is a devastating performance by a ridiculously underrated band. "Common People" is a classic, possibly the greatest lyric to ever grace the UK top five. Anyone remember the Tory that said he could live on dole money and would prove it by doing it for a week? I don't know if Cocker was inspired by that idiocy but the fact that the guy wouldn't experience the despair of living on benefits because he'd be back to his nice life in a week is really reminiscent of the rich girl in the song slumming it and being one phone call away from luxury. This was a triumph.

Jarvis, and by far. He is probably the best frontman ever, and his writing style and the riffs are unique, and awsome, his style too, the dance moves. And Common people is in the top five as best track in the 90s. I mean to like Pulp is cool
