Hi Stephen - I hear what you’re saying and your not alone thinking this but while they make deer easier to spot wouldn’t say they take all the skill and fieldcraft away from the stalk and positioning for a shot. I’d also say that just because you can see the deer doesn’t mean you have to shoot it. From a safety perspective with wandering public & livestock they are a fantastic asset and having a greater awareness of deer population and it’s quality surely help stalking make better decisions when it come to management. For recreational stalking they add an extra level of detail and experience that you may not otherwise get and from a more commercial / professional level they make things more efficient and effective. Everyone has an opinion and yes from a sporting perspective yes they’ll help stop you walking past deer you would otherwise have overlooked but for me they’re a valuable asset in the kit bag.
