Guys, this is why you try the shoes YOURSELF! Some will love, some will be like MEH, some will hate. This is the case with EVERY shoe I hate to tell you. I have 40+ pairs of shoes and disagree with plenty of pairs that Thomas and Megan love. Doesn't make them or me right or wrong. The women's Olympic marathoners from Puma LOVE these shoes. Try shoes out, you may find something you really love, I have.

Apparently Nitro Foam is a TPEE with Nitrogen infused foam. It's that's true, that material definitely need a solid break in time, the same as with Lightstrike Pro (also TPEE with totally different properties and feel though).

I went to a demo the other night where they had the Magnify 2 and Velocity 3. Ran in both (Loved the Magnify 2) and feel like the velocity 3 could benefit from a lower drop that increases the nitro foam under the forefoot. The Magnify 2 has such good feedback as the high stack shoe. If they made the velocity 3 a 6-8 mm drop it might increase some of that feedback.

@@davidg61 Of course, I know doctors of running were quite positive about the shoe. But from what I hear in the review it doesn't sound like a massive upgrade from V2, just 2mm of more stack. While I like Nitro foam and I think daily trainers like this have their use, a shoe like this probably won't fit in my rotation with so many other competitors that are either more cushioned or more exciting to run in

I've done almost 400km in the Brooks Hyperion Max and love it. The Saucony Triumph 21 is actually surprisingly snappy for a shoe that's essentially a cruiser. Still early days at around 50km, but I did 2 runs a week apart, a 15km and a 17km with no planned pace and one was 4:44 pace and the other 4:46, with relatively low effort. I find the Novablast 4 to be a clunky, chunky clog with a poor upper. It sits in a box in my wardrobe. I've run 20km in the Velocity 3 and quite liked it. Still, only 20km so difficult to really make a call, but neither the Max or the Triumph are similar to the Velocity. I wouldn't personally call the Novablast 4 snappy, more sappy, as in energy sapping. I wouldn't call the Velocity snappy either. I think snappy can depend a lot on an individual's running mechanics.

Im really exhausting the limits of these but havent found a 2024 shoe that I like to replace any (specifically rebel and velocity N 2). Totally agree with Nova being clunky and Velocity 3 didn’t scratch same itch as 2. Also Vomero heel counter was just out of control. Mach 6 and rebel 4 on the way so fingers crossed.

No argument - it is firm out of the box. I am hoping mine soften up - I'm around the 30 mile mark now 😬 My first pair of VN2's softened up amazingly - easily my my most comfortable running shoes ever (still wearing after 400 plus miles). However, I bought a second pair that never softened up, so got rid after about 100 miles. I remember BITR's similar review of the Magnify Nitro 1 - my pair of those softened up after maybe 50 plus miles and feel great now. But a much more positive review was given of the Magnify Nitro 2. The Deviate Nitro 2 is Puma's best running shoe however IMO - and here in the UK it is available on discount for less than the VN3.
@wordsovsean8905

My Velocity 3 softened up after 1.6km exactly. I have 2 pairs of the Magnify Nitro 1 and they both softened up at around the 2 to 3km mark. I also have the Magnify Nitro 2 and I think they feel firmer than the Magnify 1. They also feel clunkier. The Magnify 1 is a super smooth shoe and number 2 feels clunkier and just like a lot more shoe in my opinion. I agree that the Deviate Nitro 2 is a great shoe. I'm on my second pair. My wife is on her third.

I've only put in 30 km but, I'm really enjoying the Velocity 3. As a daily trainer, I feel like it's spot on in terms of comfort and ride. My only criticism would be that the collar feels a bit uncomfortable during the initial 500 m, however, it seems to sort itself out after that. If I was going to nitpick, I'd say I'm a bit disappointed that Puma didn't retain the outsole lugs of version 2. I'm guessing this means the tear drop lugs will be dropped for version 3 of the Deviate and the Deviate Elite. I'm a bit surprised by how dismissive this video is towards version 3 although, I appreciate that we all have different preferences and mechanics (I tend to shy away from soft or max cushion shoes which seems to be a BITR preference). I have to acknowledge that I'm just a mid-pack runner, I'm not a shoetuber so I have very limited experience with other shoes, and I've developed a Puma-bias so I certainly don't believe my opinion is more valid than anyone else. My recent daily trainers have included the Mizuno Wave Rider 24, Velocity 1-3 and Saucony Ride 16 so some might argue my shoe choices are a bit traditional (aka boring). Having said all that, you're COMPLETELY WRONG!😉 I do like to have an alternate set of daily trainers and I'll definitely be looking into the NB Rebel 4 ($220 AUD) and Hoka Mach 6 ($250? AUD). I have no doubt these are superior (but more expensive) shoes but, within a shoe rotation which includes speed day and race day specific shoes, the Velocity 3 ($180 AUD) is brilliant...for me at least. On another note, I always enjoy listening to your podcasts during my recovery runs.

I have 4 pairs of running shoes, wave rider 26, brooks ghost 15, and a pair of champion 3 from Chinese manufacturer Anta (a pair of nitrogen midsole cushioning running shoes), and recently just got puma velocity nitro 3. To be honest, in terms of overall performance, nitro 3 feels better than the other three pairs. Especially the wrapping, and the feeling of running. Maybe after a certain number of kilometers, the feeling of the midsole will change, but I prefer a harder midsole.

What they said about the Velocity 3 is what I felt with the Velocity Nitro 2 : went back to the old Nike Pegasus 39&40 , Wave Rider 26 & 27 and I could not be happier. It seems that the version 3 will probably will only be more durable them the v2 since the new shoes are twisting a lot less now , as if they put a torsion system from Adidas ... good job on this stability / anti twisting system.
@nordicwilly6650
@nordicwilly6650 7 ай бұрын
What was the twisting problem in version 2?
@MiracleWarriors
@MiracleWarriors 7 ай бұрын
@nordicwilly6650 I had this issue and the huge local store near my home had a few costumers returning the Velocity Nitro 2 as well. The shoes have a dual layer middlesole , one is the Nitro that is super soft and does not give any major support( structure) to the middlesole to prevent it from twisting laterally. So Puma and other brands normally combine a resilient EVA foam with their soft middlesole cushioning. The problem for Puma and the Velocity Nitro 2 is that they put a very small layer of EVA just above the outsole and the weakest and tiniest point of this EVA layer was bellow the arches . So you see, if you overpronate a bit ,like myself, or you are running in uneven terrain, then you will end collapsing your arches .... after a while the tiny EVA just on that weak spot of the shoes will give up and bend and stay that way permanently. So the shoes twist in the middle, by the arches and stay that way, and you no longer can use them for walking and much less for running. This happened to my pair with around 90km of running. Very poor durability of the shoes. But it seems that the Nitro foam and the EVA AND the outsole rubber are all more resistant in the Velocity Nitro 3. It is less soft and comfortable, but it will last longer, even if you overpronate. That is way most Adidas shoes have that Torsion System or rods. This way the shoes will never twist and can get some nice bounce as well from those systems.

So Velocity Nitro 3 sucks because it's worse when compared to Superblast or Boston 12? Completely different shoes with different price and purpose? You didn't compare it to any other daily trainers - especially at the same or similar price point. Your review for previous model (Velocity 2) got good review, green light and title "The Cat Is Back (And Even Better)". Changed upper and different pattern of less outsole coverage suddenly makes the same TPEE/EVA sandwich stiffer up to the point that it becomes horrible? I don't buy it. If you are really fine with comparison between Velocity 3 (one of the top daily trainers for that price class or even slightly above it, $130) vs. Superblast (premium start-ready long distance trainer with race foam, $200) just compare everything to Evo 1 already. Why satisfy for less? This initial review felt lazy compared to other content creators who logged over 100km in these and fairly compare it to other competitors of the same class.

@@Believeintherun I don't feel I'm wrong. You mention Superblast and Boston 12 as the shoes you used recently so that is your point of reference coming down to Velocity 3, being disappointed by that model and deciding not to use it anymore. If you are not comparing Velocity 3 to those models then what are you referring to by claiming that Velocity 3 has dull ride? Compared to those super trainers most, if not all, daily trainers have dull ride so why would you not give a better example? You end the video by mentioning that nobody wants to run in this model anymore so it looks to me that it might be the only review we will get from you. If you make a claim, provide an example. If Velocity 3 has dull ride, give us an example of some other model with the best ride for comparable shoe tier. I don't understand the point of coming from super trainers to simple daily trainers, picking one model, complaining about it and not comparing it to relevant competition for the same type of running shoe. If you are just coming back to daily trainers, slow down, take your time, understand the competitors and give us better feedback over a longer review rather than some knee-jerk reaction in first thoughts. You're better than that.

If you liked velocity 2, basically nothing has changed. You don’t even mention the foam being TPEE which for sure has a breaking period, just like the adios 3 lightstrike pro. The attitude ”I ran a short run on these and instantly knew these are bad” is terrible for a reviewer of your magnitude and made me want to unsubscribe.
