That torque "curve" ,if you can even call it that, is absolutely phenomenal. Just gobs of torque throughout the entire RPM range. Gonna be one of those that just slams you into the seat and doesn't let go. Great work!

I remember having to drive a then new '76 1 ton GMC 454 pulling a gooseneck flatbed trailer grossing 33,000 pounds out of Denver. It took 9 hours to make it 350 miles to Rock Springs, Wyo. I would have loved to have had even your N/A 496.

I've made that run in the last few years. Can't imagine what the roads were like in 1976. Making some of those climbs with a naturally aspirated engine must have been memorable. And getting down the hills even more so. If the truck was new at the start of the day, it wasn't new after that trip!

That blower will shine at high elevations. Only thing is it'll consume fuel like a WWII bomber. Not so much for cost but for range. Stopping every two hours eats a lot of time.

Hello everyone, I always wanted to build/rebuild an engine. I picked up a junkyard gen 3 5.3ls engine. I purchased few parts like: " Mahle 5.3 flat top forged pistons, " gen 4 rods, " 862 heads, " .625 max lift springs, " FAST LSXR 102mm Intake, and some other stuff. Whereas I'm stuck on what camshaft and lifters I should choose My goal is to make as much HP N/A as possible. The options for the camshaft that I have are : 1) "COMP Cams 54-602-11 Big Mutha' Thumpr" 2) "Comp Cams 54-703-11 Stage 2 Thumpr Cam" 3) "Competition Cams 54-408-11 XFI RPM" 4) "GM Performance Parts Camshaft, LS6 Camshaft, Hydraulic Roller, Lift 0.550/0.550" These are the cams and only these I can get for free from a friend, the question is which one would allow me to make the most HP. Thank You everyone for reading

I have a suggestion for a video: Similar motor where t he only thing you alter physically is to change the compression from race-gas level down to "we can thrown any pulley on this blower we want" levels and see what the timing advances and boost levels are you can use, and the end result in power production.
@richardholdener1727
@richardholdener1727 Жыл бұрын
HOW DO YOU SUGGEST WE CHANGE THE COMPRESSION WITHOUT CHANGING SOMETHING ELSE THAT ALSO CHANGES POWER? PLUS, THE ONLY WAY TO FIND THE LIMITS YOU DISCUSS ARE WITH KNOCK SENSORS-NO GOTS.
@exploranator
@exploranator Жыл бұрын
@@richardholdener1727 I don't know. But, a series of copper head gaskets or some different pistons can change compression. I guess the MAIN change is the compression, and different pullies and timing, and knock sensors would be needed, yes, but I noticed no one has ever explored the limits of timing and boost by widely varying the compression ratio.

I was going to make a comment about keeping the higher compression and running E85, but after having looked at the Alternative Fuels Data Center map it is just not realistic depending on your route. I didn't realize we were so spoiled by pump E85 here in the Midwest.
@garyhosier4765
@garyhosier4765 Жыл бұрын
I’ve never run E85 so I don’t know much about it but as an everyday driver regular gas would help keep cost down so you could enjoy your car and still with that torque and horse power have more than you need from light to light.
@TheeAbstractHero
@TheeAbstractHero Жыл бұрын
@@garyhosier4765 Not sure how familiar you are with E85, so here's the quick breakdown of it. E85 is typically sold at the pump somewhere between 50-85% ethanol to gasoline. It tends to be cheaper than 87 octane in my area. Last I checked E85 was $2.59, 87 Octane was about $3.54 at the same station. Ethanol blended fuels have a higher octane rating (100-105 according to Iowa Renewable Fuels Association), but ethanol has a lower energy density than gasoline. You can push the engine harder due to the higher knock resistance, at the cost of increased fuel consumption. Pump E85 can have some tuning complexities associated with it due to the variability in blend from station to station, so a lot of folks either test their fuel at the pump (no thanks) or run a flex fuel sensor. With the flex fuel sensor you can tune using the data that the sensor provides. You can buy Barrels of E85 from many different race fuel manufacturers, but in the context of installing the engine in a truck that defeats the purpose imo.
