I had some difficulties with my pump jack set up I was using for siding on a gable end, so make sure to check that these things are not a problem for you before setting up your jack system.

I was 70 years old when i saw pump jacks at an auction. The auction site called them "ladder jacks" and i couldnt figure out how they worked. This explains it all! Very good,

(1) Don't use 4x4 with the Werner STEEL pump jacks! They require double 2x4s! (2) Don't use a foundation post at the base! Use the proper anchor base. Although both have similar square recess to hold botton of post the anchor base has a giant spike that also impales into the ground preventing the post from sliding or getting knocked out! (3) You should fully assemble jack onto post as well as upper brace on to post before positioning post near building. This will eliminite your realizing too late your problems with positioning. Good luck and BE SAFE. Take this equiptment very seriously or don't use it at all!

Your video is probably the best one ive found on KZbin! Ill be doing the same this sumer on my cabin in Colorado... I need to get up 28 feet. With lumber being what it is these days, ive been concerned about making my columns out of double 2x4s

Your “standoffs” or braces need to be mounted on the front of your post(2x4s are the best choice). A better mounting point would be on your fascia. Gives you ample space to work with your material. Last and definitely not least, you have to secure your footing. It’s the first thing to roll and cause a big problem. The taller you are, the harder the fall.

I think your top bracket is just on backwards. The wingnut and bolt side should be away from the house. That would give you 4-5 inches more clearance.

@@ben4thewin I must say that I am impressed that you tackled this job, though. You keep up that work ethic and it will take you far.

Yep. Just flip the pole bracket to the outside of the brace. I'd also use the base that sinks in the ground or at least tie the bottom to the house. I been up 30 feet and there is a lot of pressure at the bottom pushing away from the building. Keep up the good work and be safe!!

I believe you are supposed to step on the pump and keep it down prior to lowering. This should stop the drop that you're experiencing.

Very helpful and informative video! Where did you get the pump jacks and cross beams? I need to go 20 feet up. Can you get 4x4's that long?
@ben4thewin

I believe you can, however it actually works better to use staggered 2x4s and that are screwed together, and I'm sure that would be cheaper as well if you don't have a saw mill to make your own like I do

Very interesting! That makes sense and is so useful! 2x4's are much easier to come by also! Thank you! @@ben4thewin

Also they are designed for 2-2x4s nailed together, not 4x4s , I’ve been using those for years , your fighting yourself the whole way

That is the sketchiest and most ghetto pole set up I've ever seen lol

If you stagger 2x4s and use the correct fasteners in the correct engineered Patterson you can run these higher than aluminum so ghetto nah not likely..... just because you never used them doesn't mean there ghetto or just because it's wood posts and not aluminum doesn't mean it's ghetto. These are actually more useful and at a way better price. Can u can use these at any hieght or higher with no problem.. just use the correct fastners and place brackets at engineered anchor prints and gonas high as you want. Info from and tried and true from licensed civil engineer...

And he's not using these correctly it should go up and down smooth I have atleast 20 of these but also have just as many aluminum as well. Both used in different situations.. but don't hate on this young man for trying to educate and also learn as he's doing this. Atleast he's trying to do something and not being a keyboard gangster... do your thing brother keep educating and making videos youll only go up from here...
