Dear Konstantin, in case of viscous crude oil , have you ever used steam to supply your centrofugal pumps?
@CaptainKG
@CaptainKG 2 жыл бұрын
Dear Christos, on crude oil tankers centrifugal pumps are always steam driven. In case of transportation high viscous crude oil it should be heated by heating coils of all cargo tanks. But on VLCC's heating coils are equiped only in Slop tanks. That's why VLCC transports cargo which is not to be heated.

Thank you. What is the rated capacity and discharge head of the main cargo pumps? What is the temperature of crude oil during unloading operations at the terminal?
@CaptainKG
@CaptainKG Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Discharge head 140 m or 14 bar was on this particular suezmax tanker. Light crude no need heating during unloading and the temperature varies from climatic zone. Heavy crude oil sometimes requires heating, depends of the climatic zone also, normally at least till 30 Celsius.

@CaptainKG
@CaptainKG 2 жыл бұрын

What is the difference between Lel and Volume? I always wonder that because,When our tanks are empty,I measure gases as Lel but when tanks are full then,I measure as VOL.Why happens like that? Thank you so much.
@CaptainKG
@CaptainKG 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Canavar. The Percent by Volume means that in a total sample of any given gases equivalent to the 100%, while percentage of a LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) of flammable gas within that total will mean a risk. i.e the percentage by volume of Methane will be 5%. This means that in a situation where 5% of methane out of the 100%, as long as we have Oxygen and a spark this will mean a highly dangerous situation. If the 5% of a total is the LEL (lower explosive or flammable limit) for methane, that 5% will be equivalent to the 100% %LEL. Meaning this that the %LEL is the total needed percentage out of a 100% of a flammable gas. i.e. For Methane %5 by volume = 100% %LEL. Therefore 2.5%VOL is 50% Methane So, you normally measure LEL in empty cargo tanks because gas concentration is not too rich, because of inert gas mixture there after discharging. And in loaded tanks the gas mixture is rich and it could possible to measure only % by VOL(volume)
