RIC- MANY people thought they were going to be stars on Pumping Iron- one was FRANK ZANE, they followed him for days filming everything and he ended up on the cutting room floor as the directors only wanted to "FOCUS" on the Arnold vs. Louie angle...

Ric had his priorities and nothing was going to change that decision. You have to respect his integrity. The footage you shot of your son has to be transferred. Someone watching has to know someone if not themselves who can help.

In 1975 I used to train with Ed Corney and Denny Holms at Denny's Body Shopp in Daley City, Ca. Great times and work-outs before I went off to play college football in San Diego. Thanks Ric for all your passion and videos concerning mind and body building.

The Quasar- VR1000 (VX Format) has standard RCA Video and Audio outputs. If the tapes are still good and the machine works you can copy it right to just about any format like a VHS tape.

Ric, unlike most bodybuilders of the day you thought pragmatically. You were concerned about making a living and the future. Only a very few guys at the time made a real living off the sport.

Word! Look at the clip where Ripper Ross was rolling up in his beat to shit beater van. He was all over the mags back in the day, and a color commentator for that body building show that was on ESPN. Nothing to show for it. Sad.

Adrian Jones Great comment! You can see the deep sincerity of Ric just wanting to post a historical record of first hand knowledge . I can feel how much Ric loved being a part of this era, and he truly misses it, and is maybe a bit disappointed that we didn’t have a chance to experience it ourselves.

I got into bodybuilding because I wanted to transform my body. Nearly died from obesity and bad habits to natural bodybuilding 7 years and getting asked if i use steroids daily (I take that as a compliment because I know better). Love inspiring others and that's why I enjoy your channel so much. Keep inspiring Ric, hope to make it to the West Coast someday soon!

Although I'm 'only' 46 I have a deep nostalgia for the Golden Era. Perhaps it's a fantasy and was never really like I imagine, but I do remember the early days for me in the 1990's in gyms. Even then bodybuilders were a rare breed and one felt part of a special sub-culture of characters united in the need to lift heavy and be in shape. I still train, but that magic seems to have gone. I think it is probably futile to hope for it to return, and I'm just glad I experienced it when I could.

Most people would say you made the right decision as only Arnold & Louie really got anything out of it career-wise as far as we can see.It never makes sense to work for nothing unless we know for sure there's something in it for us,this is a hard fact of life.

That video format, "VX" was big in Japan so your best bet is to look for a player in Japan, then try to transfer the films. Or send the tapes to a Japanese shop

Great one Ric! Absolutely the right decision not to take the non-paying gig. My best friend is sag-aftra and got me with a talent agency to see if I could get in on some background work, etc... mostly a way so we can hang out and he gets away from the wife! Also, I was really curious how the biz works. And let me tell you it’s ALOT of Work at times as you know. I’ve been in several action shots on film but none speaking yet. A lot of background. It’s fun. I’m the GM for a massive Dealership group, so it’s not about the money, but I can see how it would be. You’re right, you gotta go for the “now money” As Col Tom Parker called it. I’ve seen a lot of former stars working background on these sets. Won’t name names but I’m sure you’re aware.

roguenation Right. Same “risk” that everyone else took anyway. Things happen the way they are supposed to. If Rick knew the impact Pumping Iron was going to have, I bet you he would have been ALL in! Even for free! Saying otherwise just comes off as bitter and regretful just as he says he opted out for a good reason and didn’t wish he chose different.

SUperD 007 Same with Danny Padilla. He got pulled from the contest last minute because the United States wanted two heavyweights, Katz and Waller. I suspect the filming of PI was behind this since the movie fell apart without the Katz-Waller storyline.

I can understand that. If someone told me I could appear in a film but had to take time off from work to do so, without pay, I'd be hesitant. Bills aren't going to pay themselves. Besides, no one at the time realized how big this film would become. I don't even think the people who made it realized that. I'm sure if you could go back you'd definitely appear but given the circumstances at the time it makes sense why you did not.

only USA uses Fahrenheit, about 1 % of the world the rest uses Celsius. 96 deg F corresponds the temperature of a freshly killed deer ( he wanted to measure human body temp but used a deer) and 0 is some salty/brine water combination. Celsius 0= freezing temp of water 100= boiling temp of water, is much simpler
