2/2 Don't know what instrument mini-mics are they using today, but I experienced the VERY same problem when amplifying the mandolin, guitar and banjo with DPA instrument mini-microphones. It's pity since they are wonderful musicians playing extraordinary instruments.

Unfortunately, the mix required for the house is often substantially different from what would be most desirable for reproduction elsewhere.

Awesome cover! Swedish polska and american bluegrass truly is a great combination. Be sure to hear the original by Väsen: /watch?v=BOyj7pRULDU Flippen is at about 22:47

1/2 I don't think the ''house mix'' is the the problem in this case. I heard them performing live two days ago in Berlin and the problem was the same. The problem disappeared when they played two last songs unplugged without any amplification. Therefore I believe that the trouble is in their current amplification.

yeah, it's not uncommon for live mixes to be shitty rush jobs. it's not too jarring unless you've just come from the album version.

These WFUV videos are excellent to look at, but painful to try and listen to. The sound/mix is just awful...

Mando mix during intro, inaudible mando harmonics, overpowering bass harmonics, etc. It just sounds like a sterile board mix. Nonetheless, I concede "awful" is too strong a word. Perhaps, having seen them live multiple times and given the number of posted PB performances which are truly excellent captures, my expectations have been unrealistically inflated.
