Time after time he would just let him unload a can of whoop ass. I just realized, Dan actually thought he was dodging left the entire time. In the Link to the Past playthrough, Dan mentioned how he occasionally gets left and right confused due to his left-handedness. Really, he just thought Arin was telling him to do the thing that kept getting him hit in the face.

I think Dan's difficulty with that punch can be explained as: 1. Dan doesn't know you can duck, so he only dodges either left or right. 2. Two of Popinski's left hand punches look near identical in the time you have to react, and if you take out ducking, one can only be dodged left, and the other only dodged right. Dan's defaulting to right since that works more often early in the fight. 3. He's listening and talking to Arin at the same time as all this is happening, which is really an amazing feat. I need complete silence to play Punch-Out.

+Robert Blanchard The visual difference is noticeable, but by the time you distinguish whether or not he took a step to his left, it's almost too late to react. The reflex needed to instinctively dodge Popinksi's punches is almost the same required for Sandman. I get by on pure memorization.

IntenseHat4798 1 after the first knockdown, it's usually a quick clothes line attack, if you knock him with a star punch. You can get a star if you dodge his delayed uppercut and throw a delayed jab or hook. Dodge his crunch uppercut to the left and hit two delayed jabs after the stun to get a stun. Land the first two spins on the clothesline attack and then mash the a button to use a star and an instant KO.

It's because Soda Popinski has two different punches that long similar. Dan thought they were both the same punch and since he realized that dodging to the right worked half of the time he figured he was just messing up the timing the other half of the time.

This brings me back to the first time I played this game. It took me fuckin' WEEKS to beat the game the first time, and I lost so many times that Mac got a special Headgear that gives him extra health. A "You suck so hard so here's a bonus" thing that Nintendo incorporates into every game these days. It was arguous and embarrassing, but eventually I managed to beat Mr. Sandman after the 3rd quintillionth time I tried. Then I learned what Star Punches were. And that the game could be beaten in an hour and a half with that knowledge. Man, I felt stupid. So I'm giving Danny some slack for not knowing how to duck. It's not like the game tells you it's an ability you have. Sure WE see it when we does it accidentally, be we're also A) watching a recording of it long after the fact and B) not sitting next to the hyperactive and hilarious Arin throwing sass our way. All I'm saying is, I'm sure Danny knows he could've ducked now. There's probably been ENOUGH comments telling him that information. There's probably been enough tweets and Facebook posts and Subreddit jokes. He knows. Let's chill out a little, okay?

You know what Danny is GOOD at this game. He is GOOD. This game is HARD. My ass got destroyed the first time through. I took like 5 or 6 times to get through Soda Popinski. And don't pretend y'all are any different; you might be good at it after your 2nd or 3rd time, but you got smashed as a beginner. The difference between us and Danny is that he actually has to record his blind playthrough and show to thousands of people, many of whom will hypocritically give him shit about it. slendy9600 Trust me, as someone who has played this game extensively, Sodapopinski is incredibly easy, almost a joke compared to the rest of Major circuit. his punches has less reaction time, but none of them are oddly timed or difficult. And It's super easy to get him in a loop. But the real reason to be pissed at Dan this episode is that he attempted the same dodge about 20 times and never even tried dodging left. That idiocy doubled the time it took to beat him.

Fun Fact: they didn't noticed they healed themselves with Doc's candy bar (which is triggered by pressing - during the in between rounds) also you can heal while they are down by alternating punches, and the least known (its still pretty known though) the alternating punches on the screen where Little Mac is faceplanting from numerous knock downs can sometimes trigger a last ditch effort where Mac stomps with his foot before kissing the mat....why arent these facts already top comment??

At 1:55 Arin: "I think you might have to go to the left instead of the right" Danny: "No, that didn't work" So he clearly tried. How many times he tried, we don't know, but we do know that he successfully did it to the right multiple times so he stuck with that. Secondly, several fighters had a similar punch and he had to dodge it from where the punch was coming from. So logicly he'd dodge to the right because of that anyways, since he doesn't know if the game decided to switch it up on him suddenly. But hey, I've never played the game before (only the original). I'm just going from what I'm seeing. Seeing a couple comments and looking up the controls, it appears they've added a ducking feature to punchout wii, which wasn't in the old NES punchout. However, he hasn't tried to duck because Arin said the controls were exactly the same as the old punchout So there's no reason for him to assume the controls are changed (just browsing it seems to be the only thing changed with controls). Not sure if you're supposed to duck that punch but it looks like you should be able to since he just does a horizontal punch. If that's what you mean by dodge the other way, then sorry for this whole comment.

Also he never pushes down to DUCK, and during the TKO animation you can mash 1 and 2 to get a chance to come back. Lastly, mashing 1 and 2 while the opponent is down will grant him life.
