God I pray that Bernthal comes back. It's one of my favorite performances of anything MCU-related. He looks like a Frank Quitely drawing and has the energy of a rabid dog gnawing at the chain which keeps him staked to the ground. As much affection as I have for Thomas Jane's turn at the role, Bernthal's Punisher is mesmerizing to watch and I always 100% buy that he's the most dangerous person in any room he enters. No other Marvel hero makes me scared of what *they're* going to do.

I fully believe Punisher Season 3 would’ve been the Punisher that every wanted to see from the comics. Best thing Disney can do is, if they choose to introduce him, I’d have him be just that: Comic Book Punisher.

Worth the wait. Nice job, Leo. I think that it's really more of The Frank Castle Show as opposed to The Punisher, but... oh, well. Mr. Jon Bernthal still kills it. Technically, Castle, Russo, Schoonover are FORECON Marines; Curtis Hoyle is a Navy SARC.

I always felt like the odd man out because I actually liked the show, both seasons. Giving Frank more of a character outside "cold murder machine" was always the better route for a TV show that spans multiple episodes, and I actually liked the development he went through.

@@SquadPoopy Oh, do not get me wrong. I still loved the show. Mr. Bernthal kills it; the acting and writing all around is really good. I just find it weird that he is the Punisher in ‘Daredevil,’ but then not as much in his own show. I still like how they flesh out his character, and, as I said, Bernthal is just phenomenal.

I’ve seen Jon in a few things, but the stuff I saw he was the background character, he was good but not a standout, this show and Daredevil shows how great he can be, how raw and real and I can tell this show will ALWAYS be a part of Jon, cuz since then he’s got ticks like Frank, it adds a certain charisma to his acting in other roles This entire show, slow or not, was character studies, I love this kind of stuff and it tackled so much and it felt so real, yes the 2nd season is weird with certain storylines, but I still cared a lot

‘The best idea for the season is used and thrown away like a used baby wipe.’ I love this line because it’s so true. Season 2 was so frustrating with how many good ideas it had and how badly it fit them together into anything resembling a story.

I liked Pilgrim because, unlike Frank and Billy, he was a terrible man who did everything to leave that life behind. It was only out of desperation that he returned, and even then he did so reluctantly, eventually forced to continue under threat of violence to his children. Frank is trapped in a self-destructive spiraling cycle that will see him dead eventually. Pilgrim is the one of the main three who actually has the ability to walk away at the end. Billy dying leaves Frank alone to walk that destructive path. Because it's all he really knows. Pilgrim got the chance to distance himself from that violent life and find a semblance of peace and redemption. Frank never got that chance.

This character shaped me during my teens. And how you put it "the grey area of agency and inability" really made sense to me on why I liked him. I know what it's like to to feel committed, driven, ruthless even if need be but still broken. Broken within a body and mind that wants to heal but can't because I wouldn't let it. The Punisher (especially Jon Bernthal's portrayal) will always mean something to me as a person because of how well I resonated with him at that time.

9:35 The worst part of Season 2 was how they did Billy as Jigsaw. Frank scarred his face so he'd always remember what he did to him but in S2 they had him forget. And if they'd played up Billy's narcissism and had him think his face was ruined even though he only had a few scars it could have worked. But characters reacted as if he looked like comic Jigsaw when he didn't.

See, if I wanted to see more Punisher, I'd read the comics. The best part about the media of film is how it does Frank justice so much. You really get to know Frank Castle as a person, as opposed to as the Punisher. And while I love the scenes where he's killing everyone, I think the scenes where Frank is able to face his own character flaws or speak FRANKly to others are much more powerful.

Man I wish Barnes was given more make up when he became Jigsaw. He killed it as Billy Russo, was such a convincing villain and so good in every scene. Even just the contrast in how he portrayed Russo from the first to the second season. From the sly, cunning, manipulative rich boy with a dangerous side to a broken, confused, angry man falling apart. If only they did more than give him a few cuts, and actually let him be Jigsaw

I hope they bring him back in the MCU, but at the same time I kinda don't, 'cause I'm afraid they may not do Jon Bernthal's incarnation justice, or even just shy away from the intrinsic brutal aspects like they did in Hawkeye. I dunno, just like with the Netflix shows' Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, I think they've got something really special going on with this Frank Castle, and I think it'd be a shame to see that thrown away. But if they're not going to commit, then I'd rather Disney not touch the character at all, y'know?
@TheBlarggle
@TheBlarggle 2 жыл бұрын
The fact that Disney+ was willing to put Netflix Punisher on their platform (along with all the other Netflix Marvel shows) does sorta indicate they're willing to "keep" the ultra-violent bloodthirsty version of The Punisher. Now, if he ever appears in a mainstream film he'll probably be toned down. But with the darker horror elements of Dr Strange 2, and the migration of the Netflix marvel shows, I am kinda hopeful for a faithful adaptation of this Punisher. (because I fucking love Jon Bernthal as Frank)
@Ironcabbit

There’s actually a way to stay true to the ultraviolent Punisher character while keeping things PG-13. Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy skated that edge very well.

Season 1 was brilliant, loved every second of it and it wrapped all of the sideline stories up in a neat, violent and bloody little bow. Season 2 was certainly interesting, just a little rushed imo. Those final couple of episodes were missing that thing that tied it all together. Pilgrim is sorted with a single scene, and so is Russo. No fight, no big emotional blow out. Just kind of an anti climactic conclusion to so many interesting things. But I wasn’t really angry about it, because the conclusion was still solid, just a step down from the prior season. I especially love that at the end, Frank accepts his role as The Punisher, I only wish we got to see more. Every actor and actress fucking kills it in this series, every moment that the writers and directors want you to feel something, you feel it. Fucking brilliant show

I for once was actually happy for Frank when s2 ended. Because Netflix's Punisher did for me what other media almost never did. It showed Frank Castle and his humanity shining through the big bad Punisher, and those moments were ones of the best. And while yeah, his relationship with Amy is certainly clichéd, going to reluctant protector to a fierce firebrand found father figure, the way it is portrayed is what makes it so good, like the "you didn't kill him, I just did" scene. The ending of s2 gave me some hope that maybe, just maybe there would be no Punisher. That Frank won't need to be the Punisher anymore, because as much as I like the well-written Punisher stories, there's nothing more I want for Frank than an honest shot at undisturbed healing and being able to resist his own rage, to find his humanity anew. But I guess it's out of the picture now and it's kinda making me sad for Frank.
