I was seeing Face to Face in Covington, Ky a few years back. I was having a little too good of a time and a guy in the crowd took offense to it and threw me to the ground. The next day I was covered in bruises, it was a hard hit. I’ll never forget what happened next, Face to Face stopped playing and called out the guy who threw me. Said it was a punk show and if he didn’t like people dancing and having a good time then he can leave. I’ve been a fan since I was 15 and I’m 43 now. Face to Face is a pretty special band in all respects.

7/27/99. "Ignorance.." came out on my 18th birthday; my girlfriend's (at the time) parents had given me a gift card to one of the record stores in the mall, can't recall which one (FYE?). Anyway, I walked out with "Ignorance is Bliss" (and also 22 Jacks "Overserved"), fully expecting to hear another S/T (1996) during the drive home. Nope. I was very much surprised with what I was hearing. When "Burden" came on, the shock had worn off, and I just listened in amazement. I played that record almost exclusively for months after, and I still today listen to it frequently. It always made me sad for those guys with the backlash it received, even though those jaded young punks have since grown up and largely reassessed it in the 21 years since. Thanks guys, for all the music, but especially for taking the leap and making that record.

this is fantastic.... just one comment: i wish the guitars of todays f2f had the same tone as the "final" show. There was something about that Top Hat amp that made trevor's guitar sound so wet and amazing. Next album Trevor, secretly recorded it on a Top Hat or just slap a Marshall sticker over it at shows. Not a hater, i have sponsors too so I understand. you guys rock.

Ignorance Is Bliss was so formative to that time in my life 20yrs ago... Fresh in my 20's - unsure, vulnerable & emotionally raw - backdropped by the snowy grime of the city Syracuse,NY. I was baffled at the time at the disdain for that album. I remember feeling literally hurt that people we're missing out on what I was hearing from it. I loved head-bobbing to the established punk rock anthems as much as the next guy, but this - the antithetical Bro Hymn - was what I didn't know I was looking for. For me, it was in the same wheelhouse as SDRE's The Rising Tide, another criminally underated album. Anyway, this is a much belated Thank You for that album. Proof that it didn't go over everyone's head. I'd always hoped Face to Face would revisit that old haunt eventually.

Greatness! Trever, not sure if you read these comments or not but, I've seen you guys several times down in Houston, a place called "Fitzgerald's(RIP)" usually but I talked to you for a few minutes when you guys came through right after Matt had been replaced(96-97ish) and I was bummed about it and was asking you why... I believe you kinda shrugged it off and asked me "Don't you like not hearing all that noise from Matt playing with his fingers?" and that was that... so it's nice to hear the actual story behind that situation... I then at a later date, while shit faced drunk, talked to you backstage and asked to join the band and fill in the open second guitar spot haha, I think I wrote you a note lmao(Not my best moment really) Love you guys! Your music and shows have and always will be among my favorite times and memories. Thank you for that and keep rolling it out! Please! : )

I was 18 when Ignorance is Bliss came out. Upon first listen, I was a bit taken aback after being a die-hard fan since Don't Turn Away. But after a second listen, I was hooked. I knew the band was changing and did something masterful, much like Strung Out did with The Elements of Sonic Defiance around the same time. They broke the mold they were forced into by fans, critics and loyalists. This album changed my whole perspective on "punk music" and opened my eyes and ears to so many new realms. I remember seeing them play in the Inland Empire back in the early 90s. We used to go hang out in front of Spankys when we didn't have enough money to get into the show and the band happened to have a free ticket to the Adolescents show. The band was always appreciative of their fans and would hang out and chat with us at the gigs. I remember these early days of shows at Spankys cafe and Munchies with Face to Face, Voodoo Glow Skulls and Offspring in the early 90s before they all hit it big. Great documentary interesting hearing about the progression and changes in the band. Don't Turn Away still one of my favorite all time punk rock classic albums.

There was definitely people/fans on the punk scene that wanted to hate on them, even going as far as stories of them being a metal band that turned punk to cash in. It didn't help they were breaking when everyone in the industry was looking for the next Green Day/ Offspring bands. I discovered them early and became a instant fan. Lots and lot's of good catchy songs that were straight forward fun. Good band!! Still got the tunes in rotation to this day.

Twenty something years ago I discovered Face to face through Ignorance is bliss. It quickly caught on with me and I developed an enormous passion for this album. Loved so, so very much. Still do, actually. Later on I picked on the early classics and loved them as well. Obviously, I could easily see where all the spite and ill-acceptance for Ignorance is bliss had come from, however. It is just so different. I had already found out that long standing Face to face hated the album upon its release. They simply could not digest it - it's something else. It's an amazing slab of music. Probably 1997 album was the best in terms of balance and maturity. Ignorance is bliss is special on a whole different level. My favorite of the early classic albums is Big choice. Late is ❤
