I'm looking to purchase a puppet as a 1st timer...should my dominant hand operate the mouth or the rods? I'm left handed but play my musical instruments right hamded so maybe it doesn't matter as much for me
@puppetarians2 жыл бұрын
If you are ambidextrous, please try moving the puppets mouth with either hands a few time and settle on whichever hand feels most comfortable. As ambidextrous puppeteers are few, you'd be very valuable if you practice with both hands intermittently. :) This way you will be able to accompany a right-handed puppeteer with your left hand in constricted spaces etc.
@Chaotic_Enigma2 жыл бұрын
@@puppetarians Sadly I'm not ambidextrous, just living in a right handed world and that's how I learned the music. It probably gives me an advantage to practice both ways with a puppet so I will definitely keep that in mind thank you .Can I ask another...if I create a short skit video by myself is it best to do like a lavalier mic or do a voice over in post production?
@puppetarians2 жыл бұрын
@@Chaotic_Enigma Recording your voice simultaneously as you perform the puppet is always the best option in my opinion. So having a mic on you while shooting will be great. You can also always choose to re-dub if you want to correct some words/lines. But only if very necessary.

Very nice video thank you for sharing I am blind and wanted to know when you are holding both rods in one hand do you have the rods between any other fingers? And what is the best way to attach the rods to the puppets arms or hands? Thank you! :-) I just bought a puppet! :-)
@puppetarians3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Daniel. You hold both the rods in your fist in a way that your index finger rests on one rod and your thumb rests on the other rod. Now to move the rods you need to either slide your index finger and thumb in between the rods and force the rods out or keep them on the outer side of the rods to swiftly guide them into making different gestures.
@puppetarians3 жыл бұрын
For how to attach the hand rods you can visit this tutorial kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2rOmKGfpq1pn6c it provides a very simple way to add rods to puppet hands especially when you are beginning to learn and practice.

Okay thank you I just didn't know if I had to have the rods between some fingers and then controls with index and thumb while holding the Muppet with your hand inside with your other arm. Thank you so much for the reply great video! :-) I also have a question about the arm rods are they supposed to be under the puppets hands wrist on the top or on the bottom of their arms hands or wrists? Sorry if it's confusing. If I am sitting down and I have my puppet to the right of me sitting down as well with my right arm controlling the mouth and head and my left arm controlling its arm rods are there arm Rod supposed to be outside or inside of his arms? Or just under his wrist? Thank you so much for your time and answering these questions. I love your videos and subscribed!

@@puppetarians thank you so much! :-)
@puppetarians3 жыл бұрын
@@daniellopezeverest The arm rods are inserted and glued inside the arms, opening the stich seam a little, just below the puppet's wrist. This way they really stick well and won't come out even if you move the arms vigorously.

It is necessary to synchronize the words spoken with the hand movements with the right timing. I think that's the hardest part. It's a job that takes a lot of practice. But I guess that the more experience we get, the more likes we get.
