Puppy problem at the Vet |100

So Rocco the Rottweiler has a retained testicle. Has anyone had this issue before?

Yes, and chances are it will work itself out... but. This SHOULD HAVE been disclosed by the breeder before taking the puppy home. Was this not disclosed? If it was, just wait and see. If it was not... well, now things get tricky. Depending on your relationship with the breeder and the puppy as well... you could ask to take the puppy back, or for an exchange for another puppy, or to have the breeder pay for the surgery IF it doesn't drop. Or just take the hit and pay for it out of pocket... IF it doesn't drop. Oh... and if anyone tells you that this is "normal", it is not! No this is not normal, nor common (with any mammal, including humans)... but it does happen, and though most cases resolve themselves, it CAN be a sign of possible genetic issues, or health issues of the mother dog. Either way, please be a responsible owner and NOT breed this pup!.. just in case.

Rocco will no doubt drop the other one where it belongs by the time he's 6 months. Keep an eye on it and if he doesn't on his own he might need some professional help. But my dad gave me my first Rottie in 1976 and Rotties is all I've ever had and 3 of my puppies have had tucked testicles and they all dropped on their own. Good luck with him. He's beautiful and appears to have a very passive temperament.

I have only had one Rotty and she was a female. However, if the testicle does not descend on it's own, the vet can fix that with a simple procedure. Babies and puppies, what a combination! Endless entertainment!

That is nothing to worry about in this age. When he is 9 - 12month old just see if they are where they belong. In the "badest" case they must be removed. Because when one stay in his body it would be overheated and can cause to a bad behavior. So, don't worry! Enough time and nothing dramatic. So much male puppies had it. Rocco is such a beautiful boy and I can see he will be a great friend and protector of you and your family….I had a puppy with that problem and he lived to be 9 years old with no problem because of it…the vet told us it might shorten his life and to have him “fixed” but we didn’t….he sired two litters of healthy pups as well and lived to be 9 years old

Rocco is just such a gentle man. Olivia is so adorable playing with him. I am sure Rocco's other Testicle will descend ,he is still young. timeline is around 2 months He still has some time . If not by 6 months then that is a different story . Very Precious pup!

Our GSD, Bruno, had a retained testicle and had it removed when he was neutered at age 1. It was very small and was up in his abdomen and the vet had to fish for it. He’s turning 9 in February and is doing great!

I have encountered this when I was breeding them. If the testicle doesn't drop will need to be removed it will increase his chances for cancer. If you are not going to breed him then there is no need to return him or exchange him for a different pup. MORE ROCCO, please!

Never has a dog with this problem, sorry Rocco is too cute!! OMG lol. My boy just turned 8 a week ago. I remember the day we brought him home vividly. I held him in the car while my husband drove, loved up on my boy, he puked on me and the seatbelt... he was a serious puppy though. Total goofball now.

We had the exact same problem the vet could only feel one testicle on our rottie this was at 9 weeks old. Our boy is now 12 weeks we are planning on going back to the vets in the next couple of weeks to find out if there is any change.
