This seems like the next step from the Thomas The Tank Engine sets. Looks like the Thomas stuff is actually a off-shoot of this brand, they look compatible, same wheels, same style tracks, same couplers, even some of the cars look the same, just molded in different colors.

The people who run Takara Tomy are plain Stooooopid if they think this stuff wouldn't sell in America. It is absolutely the only option when the kids are tired of wood trains but not ready for Lionel. That is a four to five year interval. The Japanese trains are Fantastic!!!
