As much as I root for Purdue, and believe me I do, I'm afraid the Boilers are "Back" thumbnail is a bit premature / wishful thinking. I'm afraid this is a case of weak opponents creating the illusion of Purdue's dramatic improvement. The first half against Washington wasn't exactly reassuring, despite the win. I'll accept this "Purdue is Back" narrative once Purdue beats a single of the nationally ranked Big 10 teams, like Michigan, Michigan State or Oregon. We'll find out this Saturday!

They talk about flying west and how difficult it is... They already do it for the non-con tournaments, so what is the difference? They will also have to do it sometimes for the NCAA Tournament. I think they overvalue the importance of it. Going on the road is difficult, regardless, but I don't think the extra distance really matters.

That's because they've been playing the top 5 of the BIG every game.Their last 4 games Purdue, @Michigan, @ MSU. Illinois (who they almost beat). They aren't great, but they are much better than their record is reflecting. Its hard to fly all they way across the country then play a night game. Washington has played every one close on thier home court.

I think it’s just “impressive” that they grinded this game out after going 0-6 from 3 in the first half and the prior game they shot 19-33. They showed adjustment. But agree, Washington is not overall that impressive of a win.

Washington beat Maryland at home, and they only lost to Illinois by 4. Purdue beat them by 11. Pretty great result unless you are also saying Illinois is trash too?

Nobody should be scared of Purdue they are a 3 man team they struggle with bad teams got their ass beat against Auburn and Marquette, and have a dinosaur as a head coach, they time is DONE. Matt Painter will go down as a Loser.

The winningest school in BIG history and a coach already in top five ever in BIG with many years to go to keep moving up ranks They are not as good as last few years, but dominate at home and consistently good for YEARS (long before Edey). The injury to their freshman center didn’t help, he’ll be back with only one senior on rooster. So if a “rebuilding year” not shabby thus far, already proving they’re in top ranks of BIG. They’ve been beating teams by double figures of late with scoring beyond three veterans too.

I guess we will see on Oregon, but right now Purdue is doing what it needed to do. If they come out of this west coast trip 1-1 that won't be to bad. Now Oregon looks okay this year and they will be at home AND Purdue will be playing their second road game in a short span, so again we will see but a loss wouldn't be the end of the world. If Purdue somehow wins though? That would be incredible. As for the NCAA, Purdue made it to the final game last year, so the "Painter can't coach the NCAA" talk is over. The monkey is now off his back. Between now and the tournament though we just don't know how good or bad Purdue will be. To see a team loose, one of the best college centers to the NBA last year and still be competitive is remarkable.
