The screws are not meant to hold the square bars, that's the job of the yellow cam locks.

If you put some masking tape over the screws and fixings you don’t get any rust or degradation of the workings and it will last longer. It’s a really simple solution and it’s worked for me over the years and my cage works as good as new after years of use. I’m pretty happy with mine. Only problem I had was my 5 gallon scuttle wasn’t quite wide enough and had to buy a new one to accommodate the extra width of this one when using 18” roller.

I own 2 or 3 of these heads and whilst they have their good points, unfortunately they are outweighed by the bad and have experienced the same problems. Good points: they are very light which reduces head weight when the roller is fully primed with paint, they do clean up really easily and come up like brand new without a great deal of effort, they are adjustable so fit 12,15,18" rollers, they fold up small to fit in your bag. BAD POINTS: Arms cake up with paint so adjusting them on the fly is sometimes near impossible. When the arms are clean the yellow clip and screw set up as he said in the video provides a poor grip on the arms. When using an 18" sleeve so fully extended. it can flex so much when you have to apply a lot of pressure on high ceilings that the roller pops out and having a fully loaded 18" sleeve hit you in the face from 20ft isn't much fun I also had one fall down a 6 storey stairwell so you can imagine the mess that made. You are better have a roller head that fits each size roller far more solid and last for years if you keep them clean

I have never had a problem with this frame and I have four of them. That said it may not stand up to abuse. I personally clean mine thoroughly after every job and make sure it’s all dry before I put it away. Look after your tools. Try the Wooster wide boy with the wing nuts, this has less profile and has more metal and if it comes loose then crank it up tighter. I have this version too. Moral of the story, yes Purdy could use a higher grade of metal in their fixings and maybe improve the cam IF some experience such issues but if you look after your tools, they will look after you!

Thanks so much for posting this honest review. I am painting the exterior of my house - heavy-duty pebble-dash - and was considering a roller cage for a 12 inch sleeve to make life easier. I did look at the Purdy, as it was adjustable, but having watched your review, I don't think I'll bother.

Get a Wooster arm it's American brand it's made out of some kind of synthetic plastic, been using it for a year now best roller arm I've ever brought and you have the added bonus because it's all plastic it doesn't bleed that grey shit out the side of the arm and sleeve

Which 18" roller cage do you use?

Arnt the screws for tightening and loosening the pressure off the cam to slide the bar , not to lock the bar off ? Idea is to only tighten the screw as it becomes loose from use

Hi there There is no need to touch the screws, it has two yellow levers that's what you use to loosen and fit your roller head

Hamilton the I stick with mark them purdys have to much plastic and more expensive..good review buddy. The only thing can recommend on the purdys drill a hole through the bars and use a lo get bolt and use a washer and wing nut set up .

@cathedralImages7 жыл бұрын
The old one that the candle man is talking about is the 15 inch Hamilton cage ...which I had two of them the problem is with them is that the screws don't tighten too well keep coming loose and sleeve keeps coming loose and falling out ...had enough !! (Main bars not bend )So blow me money on the wooster sherlock gt 14 inch roller first class bit of gear ... no chance of falling off and main bar is sturdy no chance of bending ...first class bit of kit money well spend ☺
