I like how something as simple as "one more time" makes a significant difference. Sometimes we need people to show us something obvious that we simply hadn't thought of before.

I rarely bother watching how to tie knots because for the life of me, I can not remember how to tie them. This one, though, is easy enough that even I might be able to remember it. Also, even though this might generate some hate I think we need to relax a little bit and remember we watch for free and if there's a way for the content creator to put an infomercial in the middle of a video so that he can get paid for it and continue to make them for us for free I've got no problem with it.

I agree 👍 I'm hopeless at remembering knots. Except for the prussik and shoelace knots, to my mind, all the rest may as well be an upturned pot of spaghetti. I think even I can remember this one.

One thing i like to do with my truckers hitch if i need it really tight but much easier to pull is once i put the running end through the loop to pull i go back the standing line to the end where it wraps the tree and make another slip knot loop, run my line through that effectively giving me an additional pulley making it 4x easier to pull tight.

Honest question: Why use a Trucker's hitch for a ridgeline instead of a tautline hitch? The tautline hitch a much easier knot to tie, and it performs the same function: keeping a line...well...taut.
@asmith7876
@asmith7876 19 күн бұрын
Apples and oranges. A truckers hitch provides WAY more tension than you can get with any other knot.
@timrogers2638
@timrogers2638 19 күн бұрын
@@asmith7876 - I wouldn't say "apples and oranges", as both knots serve the same purpose: to apply secure, adjustable tension to a line. Maybe "Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples". But is that "WAY more tension" really necessary to create a ridgeline for something like a tarp shelter? I have personal experience using a tautline hitch to secure a tarp shelter...in the dark...while it was raining. I could tie the tautline hitch in the dark by feel (it was a military field training exercise, so artificial light was verboten), and the knot remained taut and secure all night long. I still contend that it's an easier knot to tie than a Trucker's hitch. Considering the video shows a special way to tie a Trucker's hitch to increase its friction, and a tautline hitch would serve just as effectively, the tautline hitch is simply a more practical knot.

Can’t you just enjoy this version of teaching that’s literally at your fingertips? I’ve been a CC supporter for years and watch every video asap. I’m also a coalcracker sub, among various other survival/ bushcraft channels. I love watching all of these creators, as they always manage to bring their own “flavor”. Please chill- my 16 year old daughter is less dramatic than a lot of the adults commenting.

I wouldn't bother with this hack, people. Its totally unnecessary, and it melts the outer sheath of your paracord due to the extra friction. You end up having to cut out the damaged section, thus significantly shortening your ridgeline.
