Excellent review, I will personally wait until they put a DAB receiver in it too... a portable internet radio is a bit of an oxymoron as you need wifi all the time... and at that point your phone is more portable with a tiny speaker... so a proper digital radio is the only thing missing from this line of products, maybe an elan IR7...?

They do a BT3/E3 in the same range that has DAB (but it doesn't have the Internet.) An IR7 that has the DAB in as well would tick all the boxes.

@@wenlocke indeed... I am pretty sure it is in the works... but they clearly fear it would cannibalise other products and reduce segmentation. In the meantime I got an amazon echo spot which works better as an internet radio that the elan IR5.

Nice! They threw an internet radio into the Elan BT5 chassis! I have one playing 5live right beside me, a gorgeous green and white one! It's such a cute little thing. If only it was easier to push in the volume knob without having to hold the radio.

Nice review. How many hours will 4 x AA batteries last for? Surely a simple radio with batteries will last a lot longer than a radio with WIFI and BLUETOOTH and a fancy DISPLAY.... surely this item needs a high powered rechargeable LITHIUM BATTERY?

Hi Dave I'm an old chap in the latter part of my 70,s! Having purchased the Elan IR5 I subscribe to everything you have to say regarding the quality etc. I can only agree with Dave Collins (below) It would have been nice to see a demo on the usage of the thing! Subject to the fact there is no Manual. We're not all 'Techies' some people need help. Please . . . !!

Very nice radio, lots of options for sure. The only thing I think would make this radio even better is if they included a emergency radio band on it. Still it is a very nice radio.

There I was thinking of throwing out my very cheap FM/AM transistor radio in the kitchen for something better, and as one of your subscribers I discover this review. Could you tell me please if the Bluetooth facility on this radio is compatible with iOS devices, (or maybe I should ask are iOS devices compatible with the radio? Hehe!) You may as well get the Bluetooth/DAB only model and use internet radio though your phone, you can get it in nicer colours and yes it works with iOS 😀

Hello, thanks for the review. My daughter (12) wants to use it as her alarm clock. We don't want her to sleep with her telephone, but she wants to get waked by her favorite Spotify songs. Is that possible? Even when her phone is out than? Is the use of the alarm good/friendly? How do you see the time in the night? How do you put of the alarm? Thanks!

Hi. Can you please tell me how to add internet radio stations. There are a lot of internet stations that have names rather than 4 letter USA style call signs. Some of them are on Tune-in or I-heart ....... but I can't work out how to add them either. At the moment I am bluetoothing them from my phone to my Pure Evoke f3 .. not ideal, but surely there must be a way to get them on the radio itself.

If the connection is lost, when switched off, does the radio spring into life and start playing when connection is regained. This is what happens with my evoke f3
