he has an underlying track like you said, but he's doing some of the main looped sounds, like the guitar. As well as build ups with the drumpad. He did make all of this, just prerecorded. But overall its like a more epic dj performance.

I am a bit late to the party, but you mention this kind of thing at festivals - Saro did a huge loopstation set at a french festival called Vielles and the generally non-beatbox crowd went absolutely nuts. I'm sure it's on youtube somewhere if you wanted to react. But yeah, I had the same reaction to Gene, that man is a true visionary!

Love the fact you called it out on being partially pre-recorded, to me looping is not about the beatboxing, its not about the tech, but its about the ability to transform your mind into songs on the fly and improvise great songs with what you have available. He is just able to hit a note on his drumpad and it does an entire section of pre-recorded samples for him while he acts as if he is performing live. He is a great showman and the tracks sound good, but this is to heavily pre-produced for me if you compare it to what someone like Beardyman and Rythmind can produce live.
