We are sensitive people with OCD- so when we get an intrusive thought we freak out on this thought. It's weird because before OCD- I can remember intrusive thoughts and just blew them away but now I freak out it sucks. Now thanks to help in the last few years I now just do not react and it goes away. Good luck all OCD'ers- you can recover.

As soon as I removed myself from these thoughts (accepting as it is) I finally started to witness that the thoughts became less and less frequent allowing me to actually move on from it. Luckily for me I managed to understand and overcome it in just 2 months as opposed to other sufferers whom I heard went through years of HELL, because thats what it is. It may seem impossible but trust me you can break free just by ACCEPTING THE THOUGHTS dont fight it. when the thought comes you can be like me and say OH WELL and accept all the things those thoughts make you feel like you are. Hard but you start to give reduced attention the

I'm glad to hear you have found a strategy that works! It is SO hard to do when you don't understand the pattern of how it works, but once you get it, it can make life way better.

Lit same I used to now it’s gone what u have to do is go of social media’s coz u could see the same sex as u shirtless and etc which could trigger it so all u have to do go of social media and stop doing reassurance and ignore it when it comes I know it’s hard but ignore it

As a little kid I would OBSESS about health issues, asking my parents over and over "has that ever happened to you?". A worry would get STUCK in my head and no matter what I did it wouldn't go away -- always in the background. The worry would only fade when a new one replaced it. It really is the "What if" disorder. I'm about ready to get real help. I'm 37 and for 35 years I really didnt know what I had...I just hunkered down and forced myself through life. Now I have a young son and family, and I dont want my life dominated with anxiety and rumination when I have such beauty to enjoy. Scary, but it's time.

All my life. 53. Estranged from family. Off meth and porn. Massive guilt from not having self control and being good enough at hiding sexual abuse to prove i am worthy of being adopted. Thank you. This has been my struggle

I don't have ocd but I have a relative that has some seclusive behaviour. Again thank you for your videos. I remember when I was in high school a friend of mine told me how he could kill his kitten with just a twist of his wrist; 30 years later I now see he was looking at me wondering if that was normal. I thought that was odd not to mention other things. I moved on but he went ballistic and sent thousands of magazine subscriptions to my house. I was a senior in high school so I was less informed, I invited him to my home, threw down the hundreds of magazines and was ready to kick his ass, but I chose not to, he was humiliated enough. I knew there was something "quirky or odd" about his behaviour. Again thakyou for explaining this illness so eloquently

Thank you for sharing. My 9year old daughter has a very similar OCD. She has just opened up to me about new thoughts that are hard for me to know. No one around us understands my child, i am doing my best and appreciate it when people like your self are sharing the truth. She isn't alone. I am not sure if to show her this so she doesn't feel alone? I will be asking her therapist.

Is it weird that I don't react emotionally to "disgusting" sexual thoughts like picturing my parents naked/having sex? Not anxious, not disgusted, not excited, just... neutral.
@ChrissieHodgesPureOCDAdvocate
@ChrissieHodgesPureOCDAdvocate 7 жыл бұрын
I don't think that is weird? I was using that example because it is easy to relate for people who don't have OCD to understand what it is like and how it can hook.

Definitely print off some articles about it from reputable sources (www.ocdonline.com, www.ocdla.com) and show the doctor you are going to see and let them know you are experiencing similar symptoms.

When I think about the way OCD is described it is personified like it is an opponent. Demons which are persons without bodies are these tormentors. Two good preachers who deal with mental health challenges are Joel Osteen and Derrick Prince.
