"You're Not You Anymore" Lyrics
A garden grew between us in the love we lived without. Remaining faithful to the flood, our tears have purpose in a drought. Tread lightly, so footprints can't disturb the bed we've made. With restlessness reserved for both the bodies it contains. Aim your sharpest arrow at the center of my chest. A memorial to signify the sense of helplessness. We dare not mourn our past lives, our loss will be reborn... because I couldn't love who you were, but you're not you anymore. Sew your skeleton to mine, I'm no good on my own. Stitch yourself to either side of me so I will never be alone. We mend our past mistakes as a symbol that we've grown. So we no longer place our weight on top of broken bones. Mark an end to aimless roaming with a double sided knife. If we develop eyes for others, may we both be stripped out of sight. Liken our divide to partitions in the earth. Wrapped in walls of vines, growing out of common ground. A garden grew between us. Our tears have purpose in a drought. Mark an end to aimless roaming with a double sided knife. Taking steps towards each other, we could end both our lives... and that'd be fine.

About 10 months ago I tried to do the most selfish thing and leave this earth with out a trace. During my contemplation heard this song in my head. “Sew your skeleton to mine, I’m no good on my own. Stitch yourself to either side of me, so I’ll never be alone.” And I thought about the people that were most important to me and how my addictions and anxiety is what was killing me. But, these Certain persons helped me keep afloat even though I was sinking deeply. I wasn’t me anymore. So I got up and instead of going through with something so terrible. I put this record on and played it all the way through till I reached YNYA and I just balled my eyes out knowing I’m gonna be okay. I have all the help in front of me but I need to take it! I’m clean and happier then ever but some days are battles for sure but if it wasn’t for Brendan’s words I probably wouldn’t be here right now. Thank you so much Counterparts. My favorite band forever

2 years later and I still shed tears. I remember watching CP live in 2016 and this tall dude was crying next to me in the middle of the moshpit when they played Outlier. Grabbed his hand, low key gay. Held it up high and sang to the lyrics “I am what I am, and I am an outcast!” Never felt a bro hug so good right after

I think the best thing that translates to life from a hardcore song is beautiful gentle riffs like when life is ok but you have this weird feeling, then the heavy breakdown comes in, just like when that moment youve been dreading gets dropped on you. Its exactly what you feel.

Sometimes I wonder what people want from this band that keeps them from becoming more noticed. They have a sound that is very distinct, their lyrics consistently reference personal experience and reference other songs and albums they have written. This band is arguably one of the best in the hard/abrasive music scene, but still no love. Then again I guess some of that is just my opinion.

This song was my go to during my battle with addiction. I love and listen to counterparts since i was young....but this song... i have to listen sparingingly. When im hurting and wanting to "go back out" this is it. And i love. Seeing younger people be moved jusf as deeply says enough for this band,, lyrics, and instrumentals. The fact theyve changed so many in different generations says enough

Ringkasan Lirik Video Dengarkan Hasil Utama Sebuah taman tumbuh di antara kami dalam cinta yang kami jalani tanpanya A garden grew between us in the love we lived without Tetap setia pada air bah, air mata kita mempunyai tujuan dalam kekeringan Remaining faithful to the flood our tears have purpose in a drought Tapak pelan-pelan agar jejak kaki tidak mengganggu tempat tidur yang telah kita buat Tread lightly so footprints can't disturb the bed we've made Dengan kegelisahan yang diperuntukkan bagi kedua tubuh yang dikandungnya With restlessness reserved for both the bodies it contains Arahkan panah tertajammu ke tengah dadaku Aim your sharpest arrow at the center of my chest Sebuah peringatan untuk menandakan rasa ketidakberdayaan A memorial to signify the sense of helplessness Kita tidak berani meratapi kehidupan masa lalu kita, kehilangan kita akan terlahir kembali We dare not mourn our past lives our loss will be reborn Karena aku tidak bisa mencintai siapa dirimu yang dulu tapi kamu bukan dirimu lagi Because I couldn't love who you were but you're not you anymore Jahit kerangkamu ke kerangkaku. Aku tidak bisa melakukannya sendiri Sew your skeleton to mine I'm no good on my own Jahit dirimu di kedua sisiku sehingga aku tidak akan pernah sendirian Stitch yourself to either side of me so I will never be alone Kita memperbaiki kesalahan masa lalu sebagai simbol bahwa kita telah bertumbuh We mend our past mistakes as a symbol that we've grown Jadi kita tidak lagi meletakkan beban kita di atas tulang yang patah So we no longer place our weight on top of broken bones Tandai berakhirnya penjelajahan tanpa tujuan dengan pisau dua sisi Mark an end to aimless roaming with a double-sided knife Jika kita mengembangkan pandangan terhadap orang lain, mungkin kita berdua akan kehilangan pandangan If we develop eyes for others may we both be stripped of sight Ibaratkan kesenjangan kita dengan sekat-sekat di bumi Liken our divide to partitions in the earth Terbungkus dinding tanaman merambat yang tumbuh dari tanah bersama Wrapped in walls of vines growing out of common ground Sebuah taman tumbuh di antara kami A garden grew between us Air mata kita memiliki tujuan dalam kekeringan Our tears have purpose in a drought Jahit kerangkamu ke kerangkaku. Aku tidak bisa melakukannya sendiri Sew your skeleton to mine I'm no good on my own Jahit dirimu di kedua sisiku sehingga aku tidak akan pernah sendirian Stitch yourself to either side of me so I will never be alone Kita memperbaiki kesalahan masa lalu sebagai simbol bahwa kita telah bertumbuh We mend our past mistakes as a symbol that we've grown Jadi kita tidak lagi meletakkan beban kita di atas tulang yang patah So we no longer place our weight on top of broken bones Tandai berakhirnya penjelajahan tanpa tujuan Mark an end to aimless roaming Dengan pisau dua sisi With a double-sided knife Mengambil langkah menuju satu sama lain Taking steps towards each other Kita bisa mengakhiri hidup kita berdua We could end both our lives (Dan itu akan baik-baik saja) (And that'd be fine) Arahkan panah tertajammu ke tengah dadaku Aim your sharpest arrow at the center of my chest Sebuah peringatan untuk menandakan rasa ketidakberdayaan A memorial to signify the sense of helplessness Kita tidak berani meratapi kehidupan masa lalu kita, kehilangan kita akan terlahir kembali We dare not mourn our past lives our loss will be reborn Aku tidak bisa mencintai siapa dirimu yang dulu, tapi kamu bukan dirimu lagi I couldn't love who you were but you're not you anymore

This video, combined to recent events, made me stop smoking weed after 4 years of daily use. It made me realize that I was actually in the 3rd stage of addiction: abuse. That moment when the character took 3 pills at once and expected another moment of bliss but all he experienced was suffering, powerless, I was literally letting myself drown and stabbed by this women who represents the drugs effect. Now I am one week drug free, it is just the beginning of the fight but this video still gives me hope for the future. Thank you Counterparts for this masterpiece.
