Puristika Mod 1: Silent Coat

A sheet of Silent Coat applied to the insides of the black hood of the Puristika, a small square covering the indentation for "cup warmer" and the two sides. There is roughly 3dB less noise gained by this, less overtones. The hood is amplifying the pump noise acoustically like say an acoustic guitar's body. I'll keep distance and mic level the same for all videos, but the playback sound level might get normalized.

Webshop here in Norway. Similar products exist. One sheet was enough though, don’t need a pack with 40.

It’s self adhesive so I just cut the material a bit smaller than the Puristika hood and covered most of it. It will dampen even if you don’t completely cover it. www.home-barista.com/forums/userpix/20575_82134a72-a104-4433-9f35-9ab5e8a4c79d_hb7313TS.jpeg

@@gourmetcoffee3922 Thank you for your answer. Are you not worried that this will increase the temperature in the interior of the machine which may be potentially problematic for the electronics on the long term? (he he I may be worrying too much)

@@gggeeeooorrrggg there’s a risk with modding but I think this will be fine. I left gaps in the bends of the top 'corners' of the hood and along the edges as seen in that picture. I didn’t treat the back plate of the machine at all which has small airgaps running along all the edges (early verison only had gaps in the ECM logo I think). Also not sure if this material is good at thermal insulation or just add mass for dampening. Heat insultaion often has airpockets, this might be just a thin dense soft layer?

​@@gourmetcoffee3922 The machine is hottest at the top, at the sides not so much. I will try to install the coating only on the sides of the hood as soon the anti noise insulation i ordered will arrive. Did you try in addition installing silicon/plastic washers for the hood connections?

@@gggeeeooorrrggg I found the cup warmer position on the top to be a hot spot for overtones so I think I would at least add a strip of material there.
