@Fukurtech Censorship 'Going for red belt?' You have to have been doing jujitsu for a minimum of 50 years and then it is "for those whose influence and fame takes them to the pinnacle of art" - According to Renzo and Royler Gracie. It is awarded in lieu of a ninth and tenth degree black belt... I started Japanese JuJitsu later in life. I wish I’d started as a child. Incredible life skill. A wonderful ‘meditation’ when you practice. It’s ‘in the moment’ and takes you away from other distractions. Body confidence and a real appreciation of those with huge skill in the discipline. Dare I say Russell? - I’ve watched your intellectual journey and your interest in the misrepresentation by MSM. @Grimy_Aaronarr
@Grimy_Aaronarr 2 жыл бұрын
@@gitmehere1 the purpose of never going to the ground is because it puts you in a vulnerable place. A lot of fight end up on the ground because people don't know how to fight and end up fighting like apes. Well that's understandable when you realise they're actions are purely coming from their reptilian part of their brain. My martial arts - "what are you going to do when you take the guy down and now his girlfriend takes off her high heel and rams the heel into your back. Neve go to the ground" Another thing he says - "if you only have one bullet in your chamber then you better make it count" meaning going to the ground with multiple attackers would be missing your last shot. Unless you're going into MMA then don't learn BJJ for self defense. It's a 1 on 1 sport with rules to prevent certain things happening. Against multiple attackers BJJ has no answers. Here's another rule for you. There are no rules. Never expect to have a fair 1 on 1 when you're getting robbed by 2 or 3 people. Unless you can stick it to them on the feet then you're screwed.
@ek4asd300
@ek4asd300 2 жыл бұрын
@@Grimy_Aaronarr not many martial arts are effective against multiple attackers. Striking isn't greatly effective in a 3 v 1 situation all 3 will be attacking u at once. Bjj is as effective as any other martial art or self defense

Conrgats mate. I've always found it fascinating how guys like you (and me) who aren't innate aggressors assimilate the "art of fighting" and feel drawn to it. There is a strong philosophy/spirituality that mirrors the challenges of life and ultimately promotes gratitude.

Congratulations Russel! I literally just watched my son grading this week from blue to (fingers crossed) purple belt in Shotokan Karate (Namibia, Africa) and hope that he will also take the lessons he has learned studying martial arts through his life with him. It definitely requires great discipline, determination and dedication... he has been at it since kindergarten and starts highschool this January! Can't believe how far he has come (of course he has grown physically but also emotionally!) and look forward to continuing the journey with him through to black belt!!🥋

Congratulations Russell on a great achieveman. I took karate first time when I turned forty, actually to support my daughter in it. At 45, I was in the absolute best shape of my life. I absolutely loved it. It is true you change so much in the teachings of martial art. I witnessed this so very much in the kids that trained beside us adults. It was amazing the confidence and respect that bloomed within them. I always wished that martial arts could be a curriculum of our education system in North America, if your teachers were genuine, humble and respectful, that would be passed on. I also turned to Tai Chi, and yoga. Of all of these, karate was the most demanding, social and fun, tai chi was meditative, but yoga deepened my spirit, respect and flexibility for my body and groundedness. It is all good. At 70, even though I long for a younger body, I am content with my walks in nature and its awesomeness. Again, so much respect and congratulates!

Congratulations on your purple belt! Quite an achievement from a lot of hard work and dedication. My son started his JIu-Jitsu journey when he was 15. He is now a black belt and owns his own gym. From the time he started training he was surrounded by a fantastic bunch of teammates. They were and still are pretty much always ready to help each other out. I have found the vast majority of them seldom ever full of cockiness even though they have ever reason that they could be. As a mom I would highly recommend Jiu-Jitsu to any parent. The skills taught in self defense are so beneficial. Students also gain self esteem as well as learn self disciple.

I learned a very valuable lesson from this video (any many of your others) relating to my inability to control myself emotionally, thank you Russell. I really appreciate your honesty and transparency when displaying your progress as a human on KZbin. It found me when I was in a very dark space mentally and your growth shows me that even in the heaviest moments of humility and "Making an Ape of myself", I am given blessed opportunities to learn about myself, practice forgiveness and make the changes needed to avoid making the same mistakes twice. Truly. Thank you

Russell, wise words my friend. I happy you found BJJ. It's always entertaining to hear somebody summarize the effects of jiu jitsu in your life. I have been training since 2013 inconsistently. I have two kids, a wife and a career. I've had a few injuries here and there that have throw a wrench in the gears, and let's not forget the pandemic. All that time when I wasn't rolling, I was I was. When I get back to it I realize how level I become in just every day life. Seeing you hold your purple belt makes me stoked, because I know the feeling that's attached to it. I think one thing people who don't train will never understand is what it truly represents, because the color of your belt doesn't matter really, not to other people anyways. It matter in your own mind, as a representation of the achievements you've made to improve yourself as a human being. To be honest, I'm not sure it's describable. Regardless, congrats brother on your achievement, that is something to be proud of sir.

Starting BJJ on Monday! Also a recovering alcoholic, drug addict, porn addict, etc. Jesus saved me from myself 6.5 years ago, and it’s been the most beautiful journey. Russel, I’m proud of you. You hit on some key virtues that I’m also looking at as I anticipate being a fish-out-of-water in a Gi: Humility, self denial, self-discipline, peace and contentment… these are the virtues I hope to grow through this BJJ journey. I believe Christ will honor and bless this journey as I surrender more to Him throughout it. “He must become more, I must become less.” John3:30 Love you brother. Sending prayers to you right now.
