Purple hull peas are one of my favorite in the garden. It's easy to tell when they're ready to pick.

Am watching all your videos from the beginning 6 years ago! My son LOVES your Cajun cooking. I have gotten back into gardening after 35 or 40 years of not gardening. Worked two jobs for a lot of years and now I have time on my hands to do this. I am picking up a Lot of tips from you and several others on You Tube! Thanks a bunch!

So. good to see we are the only folks that raise these peas in out area. My mother has been growing them for 20+ years after a minister from louisiana gave her seed. We save the seed from year to year. We use them in our Community Supported Agriculture bags!

Thank you so much for your reply! You are now my greatest mentor! I've learned so much for so many of your videos! I can not thank you enough for sharing your wisdom. My parents, their parents and their parents were all gardeners! I now have enough property to do a little gardening myself. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have fresh fruits and vegetable home grown and with your advise and wisdom I know we will do well! You have my gratitude!

Awesome, thanks! "When-To-Harvest" is one of my biggest problems, and what helps me the best is to actually show me examples of each - early, perfect, late, just like you did in this video!

Thats what I like about PH peas. They "tell" you when they're ready. I've seen some of the other peas that just turn from green to tan, and it was hard to decide which ones to pick. I like the simpler approach ! ;-)

Once convinced that the peas are completely dry I place them in pint or quart jars and vacuum seal em. My sealer has a jar attachment. I have some going on 3 years that look like the day I put em in there…..Donald

Thank you. How about some tomato tips? My tomatoes are so tall/lush that it's like14' long which have toppled over of course cuz my metal poles are just 8' high. I didn't add any fertilizer, just used compost. My question is, should I start cutting top growth to stop the height growth? It's like a forest now and going over the neighbor's side too.

My purple hull peas are about ready to pick, so your info is REALLY helpful... Mine are in, what you're calling "racing stripe" mode and 1/2 purple stage. My question is, once picked, will the plants continue to produce or do I need to pull up the plants and plant again? Thanks again and stay cool; it's 98 degrees here in central Texas, so I imagine y'all are feeling the dog days there, as well!
@webcajun8 жыл бұрын
Since they don’t all come in at the same time you’ll probably be picking for the next 2-3 weeks. Once you’re done they will start flowering again and produce again. The second harvest isn’t as good as the first so you’ll need to decide whether to replant or not. If you do decide to replant and since it only takes 60-70 days for em to make you’ll have plenty time before the first killing frost…..Donald
@freewaybaby8 жыл бұрын
I thought I had enough this year, but noooo... one of the hazards of trying to square foot garden. Some crops just REALLY need a lot more room. I'll definitely replant, even though it seems like the sun would just devour small seedlings trying to sprout this time of year! Thanks for your knowledge on this; I really LOVE those pink-eyed, purple hull peas!
@roberthale5307 жыл бұрын
Great - thanks for the visual aid - exactly what I wanted to know. Any hints on getting rid of big black ants that are attacking the plants? I seem to be getting plenty of pods still, but they've stripped a few of the plants. They look like carpenter ants.
