Southern Illinois here. I've got those nasty starlings here also. I've got several Martins coming back each year. Good content here on your post.

Those starlings can really cause a lot of trouble. I’m lucky and don’t have very many around my site. Cooper hawks are my problem! Thanks for watching my channel, I hope you have the best Martin season ever!!!

Found your video today. I just received two telescope poles and waiting on two eight room purple martin houses. I am new to this and excited to try my hand at being a landlord. I live outside of Picayune, MS about 50 miles north of New Orleans, LA. I enjoyed your video.

Thanks for watching our videos!! Good luck with the Martins!! They are due back here in the farm any day! The earliest we have ever had them show up is February the 12! Share out videos with your friends. And stop by and check out our videos. We try to put one up a week.

How is this working for you? how many thus far have you caught? Considering this solution for the pesky little starlings...
@jeffeubanks3702 жыл бұрын
None yet! But I’ve had great luck for 15 years with this type of trap. Haven’t seen a starling around my site this season. They usually show up after the Martins. I think they see and hear the Martins and instinctively know it’s a nesting site. Thanks for watching our videos and your comments.

I sure do enjoy your videos.. I’m from central Alabama and a first year martineer.. I only have 1 pair now and a 16 gourd setup similar to yours. Is there any chance I’ll get more this year?
@jeffeubanks3703 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment!! Yes there is a good chance that you will get some of the subadult birds from last year. Especially since you have been able to attract 1 pair already. Hopefully over the next 4 weeks or so you’ll pickup some more!!! Good luck, and thanks for watching our videos!!

coming from the farm I would feed sparrows that I would get to the cats. They would go right after them, but if I got starlings they would grab it and then put it down and sniff it and walk away. Never did see a cat eat a starling.

Starlings are nasty, dirty, greasy things that many animals won't eat. Commonly called flying rats.

I have a question. Can you put up a house in a location and get martin's nesting in them and capture them as they sleep. I'm saying nest pole and all then transfer them let's say 10 to 20 miles in a new location, do you think they would stay in the new location? Middle Tennessee!
@jeffeubanks3708 ай бұрын
I think something like this has been tried. And I don’t think it worked. Martins migrate from Brazil. And they will return to the nest that they used the year before. So they have a great homing ability. So although it sounds like a great idea, I believe the Martins would fly back to their home range, no matter how far away they were relocated. Good luck getting Martins to your home. Thanks for watching my video and your comment

Here’s an idea: Feed the starlings that you have caught to your pet snakes or cats! Win-win idea!

I just toss them in my burn pile and let nature take over. I don’t have a pet snake, and our cat is to lazy to chew the feathers🤣 Thanks for watching our videos and your comments.

Northern Illinois here. Putting up my pole today wondering when I should attach the house. Any recommendations?
@jeffeubanks3703 жыл бұрын
I would put the house up as well. Maybe close all but 1 or 2 entrances until you actually see martins checking out you site. You just need to make sure that no starlings or house sparrows try to setup Territories in the martins housing. You could check the PMCA website and get a better idea when the martins are due back to your area, but I’m sure they are probably already there. At least the adults from last year. Thanks for watching our videos, commenting, and give me a location. Good luck with your martins this season!!!

@@jeffeubanks370 I’ve seen where they say wait 4 weeks after they arrive to put up a new house. I’m leaning more your way on putting it up now. Unfortunately I want to use a ground sleeve for the pole which I didn’t have. My wife got me this for Christmas and I didn’t check into assembling it until today. Thanks for the reply and the videos. 👍🏼
@jeffeubanks3703 жыл бұрын
I just checked the PMAC arrival map, and I’d say you are doing good putting it up now!!! And you still have plenty of time before the subadult show up. There has been a few reports of subadults, but only here in the south!!
