You know what they call an oil spill/leak......"rust prevention" 😊 I coat my lawn mower blades with a thin film of oil to help them last longer during their winter break. Keeps them sharp too. I think they make small spouts to attach to the drain hole to help with draining. Worth looking into! Thanks for sharing Chad! 😎

Good point - I've just oil undercoated that engine mount plate for the winter season. :) Have a great week!

There is some engine oil for cars and trucks that does contain zinc. Or you can by a zinc additive to put in your oil.

You are correct. AMSOIL has Z-Rod oil with high zinc for street rods and classic cars. Good up to 1000 horse power. Mark

Even better is Amsoil diesel oil. It has a higher P.P.M. of zinc.❤ Amsoil is the bomb!

Thanks! I've been very impressed with every Amsoil product I've used. I really think this oil engineered for small engine use it the ticket for something like these log splitters, pressure washers, push mowers, and even zero turn mowers and garden tractors. Sounds like a great oil. I like to run rotella 15w 40 in all my small engines. Rotella has a great additive package and the 15w 40. In my opinion does not this as much in the extreme heat these motors put out. 10-30 thins way to much for my liking. But it sound like this oil may combat that. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks

Thanks for watching! Before I tried the Amsoil, I too ran that Rotella 15W 40 in my small engines (like in the Cub Cadet 149 tractor). Especially in those older engines, I like the thicker oil. Amsoil does make a 10W-40 and a 15W-50 in the small engine oil also. clovislubricants.shopamsoil.com/

I'm not a fan of the Honda dipstick. I changed the oil in one of my small engines. I forgot to tighten the drain plug and when I came back the next day I found my floor covered in oil. I wasn't happy with myself. LOL Enjoy the journey - cheers

First off, it’s Go CHIEFS…lol! I think you provide great information on how to maintain your equipment for the homeowners who probably don’t provide their equipment as good as you do, this will help them. Oil opinions can vary with every person you speak to sometimes with little consensus other that agree to disagree. Having owned my own business (now retired) I had power equipment with Honda engines that got between 1500-2000 hours of use per year and we used regular synthetic motor oil in all of them: the only caveat was since they used so little…oil changes were done weekly. I had one piece Honda that lasted 20 years with that kind of use only changing air filters and plugs. Oil IS the lifeline of engines, it regular maintenance is key. Side note, I would love that splitter now, can’t wait to see more use this winter.😊

Wow - weekly oil changes! But it's awesome to hear that you were racking up that many hours each year with these Honda engines. I believe they are the best around. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment. I'm pretty sure my Bills and your Chiefs will meet up in the playoffs again this year. :)

The only thing that lubricates those engines is oil being slung around inside it by an oil slinger on the crankshaft as it rotates. The more oil in there, the better, unless you tilt it and overfill if a lot. You get it LEVEL and fill it all the way up, until it is ready to run out. Those small engines have NO oil filter, or oil pump. That means you need to change the oil often. Never let it get ink black. A quart of oil is cheap. A new engine isn't. On a new engine, run it for an hour then IMMEDIATELY change the oil. Note the metal that will come out in the oil. Change it again after about another 10 hours of run time. They put oil filters on cars for a reason - to trap steel particles so they don't grind away on your bearings and camshafts.

The vertical shaft splash lubricated engine use a slinger. Horizontal ones use a dipper on the connecting rod

While the oil is out would be a perfect time to install a nipple to move the drain point out in the clear. It will be so much easier next time. That oil bottle is going on my list.

I actually considered adding an extension to that drain to make it cleaner for next time - but I thought that adding a small section of pipe with that OD that fits into the ID of the drain hole would REALLY slow down the oil drain process. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

I have done this to most of my small engines with no problem draining, though I usually tip slightly. I say most because my cub cadet zero turn came with a drain hose pre-installed.

Yes. Small engine oil is ideal for the v-twin zero turn engines that run hours at a time. Kohler v-twin branded oil is made by AMSOIL.Mark

I've ran my GX200 clones on car oil for many years and never had an oil related problem. In my opinion quality of oil depends on the application. Short oil change intervals are more important than oil quality. 25 hours is too long to go on your so-called break in oil. It should be changed before blow by turns it black. I'm on my third oil change before 25 hours. It's only 16 oz and easy to do.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I like that I don't need to change the oil as often since I'm using the right oil, and a great quality. We get so busy - there can be some years we don't get all the oil changes done that we really should.

I don't believe everything I read on oil bottles. That small engine oil can also be used in a vehicle calling for 10W-30. I extended my oil drain hole with a short piece of aluminum or steel tubing and put a screw cap on the end. No more oil on the floor. Just take your engine drain plug to the store to match the size and threads you need.

The small engine oil offers the best protection available for small engines, however, any auto with a catalytic converter would not be safe because of the zinc in the small engine oil. Automotive oil also has additives not needed for small engines- Such as needed for LSPI, special additive for turbo chargers, variable valve timing systems and more. Mark
