I have owned and worked on enough of those old Ford tractors to know that I am almost positive the carburetor is none of your problem it’s the governor that regulate rpm when there is a load on the motor and compensates and when it gets out of whack the lever that attaches to the carburetor will surge back-and-forth and cause it to do what your tractors doing I would investigate The governor and see if it needs rebuilt or some adjustment imo. I’ve had that similar issue on a couple of old 53 and 54 Ford jubilee’s that I own and the governor was the cause.

Thanks for letting me know! The 600 series is very similar to the Jubilee and NAA tractors. When yours had the issues - did you have the governor rebuilt, or find a donor tractor for parts, or buy an already rebuilt governor? Is it difficult to replace?

So I own a massey ferguson 135 with the Perkins engine. When my grandfather passed he willed to to me as I spent numerous summers pulling a rake and loved that tractor. I took it to a man in witchita Kansas and spent upwards of 10k having the tractor fully restored and rebuilt back to new standards. He was a guru of gas Ford tractors and said those governors wear out more often than not and need attention as it is a design weakness. I suspect that there are numerous tractor specialist that can point you in the right direct in the PA area. ( and if you ever come across a 135 Massey diesel, please buy it) you won't be disappointed. (Update) from my research try replacing the governor springs as they get weaker in time. If that makes sense.

I learned my lesson with Amazon carbs and now I suck it up and purchase from the dealer. For me, it’s not worth the hassle of the doing the job twice and the resulting downtime. Nice tractor and good luck with your problem.

I'm guessing it's the governor that's the issue. It's usually what keeps the engine running under load at a constant speed. If the rebuilt carb doesn't work, I'm willing to bet it is the governor. Thanks for sharing Chad! Hopefully the issue gets fixed soon!

Thanks for watching, David! Have a good week. I think we're getting closer to figuring out the root cause by eliminating possible problems.

Surging under load is a symptom of too much ignition advance. Check the advance springs and weights in the distributor. Not the idle timing, but the running advance timing, sir

I do mention the Bigtoolrack in several videos. It's on the back of that Ford tractor most of the time. I haul a lot of firewood with it.

I purchased a Thundermingo (Carter BBD 2 bbl knockoff) and I have had very good luck with it......For as cheap as these Chinese carbs are,people can't help but try one out.Then if they run good,rebuild your factory carb.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 6 ай бұрын
Awesome! Glad to hear it worked for you. I have the original carb (rebuilt) back on the tractor. Buut I do have that Thundermingo carb on the shelf as a spare. You're right about the price! You can't even rebuild the original for that price.

Since it runs smooth with no load, but surges when working albeit not hard it seems to be a fuel delivery issue. Does it have a sediment bowl? Can you film the bowl while you are driving it? See if the bowl is alternately refilling and nearly emptying in sync with your surging. Restrictions in fuel line? Clogged fuel filter? Good luck.

Great idea! I'm going to set a GoPro to watch that sediment bowl under load and see if it stays full of fuel.

Thanks, Chris. It's one of those situations where you have to try A and see if that solves the problem. If not - then try B. :)

I am about as dumb as a box of door knobs when it comes to that kind of stuff. I have a 1988 JD 850 Diesel and I found an Amish/Mennonite company near me. I do not want to offend either and I am not sure but, I have paid them to come to my place every year and service it. I have been happy with their service and it saved me a lot of time and probably money. I consider myself a Jack Of All Trades but, I know when to call in the experts and save time and money. Stepping on dollar to save a dime is what you should consider.

To quote Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood) - "A man's got to know his limitations." I certainly wish I knew more about engines - but I know my limitations. I leave the things I don't know how to do (or can't figure out) to the professionals. :)

I have a 641 work master having carb problem with the Amazon carb myself it had a zenith carb on it which I. Have it looked at and cleaned now but mine didn't have that glass bowl on it I think you tractor is some as mine I don't no what makes the difference in the glass collector being on or off do you know if the 641 has to have it on there cause mine didn't and ran fine until I put some lead additive in the tank cause it was vapor locking from a inline fuel shut off switch that was not all the way open
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife Жыл бұрын
I certainly recommend finding a fuel sediment bowl. It’s amazing how much debris it captures before the fuel goes into the carb. I also think that it might be a good idea to check the screen filter that goes above the fuel shutoff valve into the tank. Sometimes these become clogged, and then the tractor doesn’t run as strong because it’s trying to pull fuel through that screen. It will help if you’re over 1/3 of a tank if that’s the issue. Keep us posted on what you discover. Mine never had the zenith carb - just the Marvel Schebler.
