@@Hoss_Delgado977 Yah I guess that could stress someone out a bit, But you just wake up in your bed with nothing too big on the line. I see your point but I guess 85% of the game is just full on chill mode. You know the game that got my Autism/ADHD into a tizzy was State of Decay 2, I love Zombie games for the most part but MAN! did that game drive me up the wall with the timers and attacks on my base constantly. Started then stopped it 10 times in the first few hours.

Beautiful simple graphics, amazing sound. You go for best time, or enjoy a relaxing ride A little to the left - organizing game. There are expected solutions to each puzzle, but you can also organize to your own taste and tell the game that's your solution Car mechanic simulator series - disassemble /reassemble cars to fix problems. I can't believe it never occurred to me that my struggles with playing games are related to my neurodivergence! I absolutely love games, but ones with combat or chasing or timed trials just make me so anxious that my hands stop working and I literally can't use the controls, and I always felt like I was just "stupid" or "a baby" and it made me feel like I can't really claim to enjoy games when I can't even play them. But it makes so much sense that it's the adrenaline spike! Cozy games have been great for when I want to play something chill, and these are some great ones I've either played or wanted to play, so thanks for the recs! I still love the "scarier" games if they have a good story or exploration or puzzles, but I play them with my partner so that he can do the controls, even though we both solve the puzzles and make decisions together, which has been a great bonding time for us these past few years. But I do have to distract myself during boss fights or really stressful situations because of the adrenaline spike. But I just love that games engage more of my brain than watching a show or movie, I don't get as bored. Thanks again for this list!

Same issue. Only just been diagnosed ADHD at 48. Grieving loss of only man I loved and finally picked up my switch after 3 years unused and played wyldeflowers. Totally hooked me and thrown hundreds of hours into it but now it is at an end. Indy company working on a new game now. Frustrating and I feel stupid when trying a game others might find easy leaves me having a meltdown. It age hasn't helped as I used to be able to do final fantasy online. Steep learning curve and had help but I did well on it. I've spent so many hours hunting various reddit threads for cosy games and done my head in as I like magic, characters that have voice acting which wyldeflowers do, but and brilliantly done too, more laid back farming and beautiful scenes and it has it all. Now stuck as I've tried a few suggested cosy games like my time at Sandrock and grow: song of the evertree and got overloaded with all the tasks and open areas that open up within hours of playing. And getting totally lost with no map. Ugh. I hate my brain as I really need a game that strikes a balance where I can explore an open world, do quests but without a time limit.

You mentioned several of my favourite games! I’ve been obsessed with animal crossing for the last almost two year spent 1500 hours on my island even bought a second switch so I could have another island (they only let you have one save file per switch which is annoying.) loved spiritfarer i think it actually made me cry! Calico is so much fun. Please please please do more cozy gaming content!

Can you do some film and tv recommendations because I get the same feeling from tv dramas/films that have too much action/thriller/drama in them like even sex education, there's a break-up or a fight in every episode and it's just too much and my girlfriend loves films and tv and i wanna watch films and tv with them but it's quite stressful. Also can imagine a similar series for books and other types of media!! Thank you so much for this video though really heartwarming to know I'm not alone!

The stuff you said about adrenaline rushes from games is so interesting. I'd never really thought about it like that before. It reminds me of when I used to play Pokemon games as a kid, and I never actually liked the battling part because I found it quite stressful, and I would try to avoid battles as much as possible except when it was absolutely necessary to move the story forward. I guess I just liked the walking around part? lol. I definitely need to try more gentle, cozy games.

This vid was great! I used to think I was so strange for the amount of stress that 'regular' games cause me. I used to spend hours and hours and hours doing puzzle games, now that time is sunk into stardew valley. I really like how on the mobile version you don't need any complicated controls and you can just let the game kill the monsters for you. Something about console and computer controls just doesn't jive with my brain (except for wii controls), possibly because I didn't play many video games as a kid that needed them, and possibly also due to my autism. Basically all of this was to say I would appreciate a sequel to this vid for mobile games!

For folx who use steam, a free cozy game I am enjoying is cateau where you take pictures of cats around Paris. I would also suggest looking into turn based games like The Banner Saga and others if you don’t mind combat, but don’t want the adrenaline rush of real-time action. Also Asmodee has lots of good board games on steam. There’s also plenty of puzzle games like doodle god or Grim legends.

Love this video!!! I finally got a switch as a Mother’s Day gift last year and it’s been the best thing ever. You were correct about Nintendo 64 being the late 90s console, I was a small girl when it came out and ever since it’s been my favorite console. There are some N64 games available for switch if you have a Nintendo account! As much as I love video games I usually watch because I get so tired from playing. I don’t know how to play without getting my whole body involved….I always get hand cramps playing Mario kart bc for some reason pressing the button to drive the car means I must press as hard as possible to go the fastest 🤣 I am definitely going to be checking these recommendations out!! I'm so glad you mentioned Spiritfarer! I fell in love with that game and, not going to lie, openly cried at several moments. Yes, it's about death, but it's handled in the most beautiful way possible. There's a wonderful documentary on KZbin about the making of Spiritfarer if you're interested at all. Gaming and autism is such an interesting subject. I've been obsessed with games my whole life, but I also get easily overwhelmed by that adrenaline spike, not to mention sensory issues and never feeling comfortable in any team-based action games. However, I'll spend ages obsessively researching in-game lore, reading about the history of gaming or listening to game soundtracks. I strongly believe there's a game out there for everyone, but it can be tricky finding something that fits your personal tastes. Please do more of these!

When I saw the title "comfy games" the ones in this video were not what came to my mind. I still appreciate you making this video about games. I have problems with those adrenaline based games too. Scenery that has unnatural background shifts and bright colors make me feel weird. So these games would not work well for me, sadly. Except (maybe) Unpacking. It still seems a bit bright. Also, Thank you for NOT recommending any word games. I almost feel like I don't belong in the ASD/ADHD communities because I'm just not fond of gaming. In the past I've not minded games such as Mahjong and digital jigsaw puzzles. I really don't know why I like them. My mother has a Wii and I miss having regular access to it. I kind of miss the archery target game.

If you like puzzle/logic games, Witness and Talos Principle are both really good. The latter does have some things that blow up, but I found it wasn't too adrenaline-y because it was mostly about maneuvering so that those things didn't see you, and even if they did, you just restarted the puzzle. I found them less stressful than the lightning storms in Spirit Farer (which, honestly, are why I don't play it more).

Thanks for making this video! I had a similar experience with gaming until I discovered Stardew Valley and then Animal Crossing (bought a switch just to play, very worth it for me, I have sunk in over 100 hours since I got it in December and feel it's more than paid for itself in entertainment and relaxation value). Ones that I played and looove so much too are Animal Crossing: New Horizons, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Stardew Valley, The Sims, Subnautica and Below Zero (this last two ones are super scary lol but I just avoided the monsters and enjoyed the rest of the gameplay). Can I PLEASE recommend The Witness (2016) on PC/PS4? Absolutely stunning open world detail, immersive but beautifully simple puzzle format, with gradually increasing difficulty and ingenuity. And the added bonus of little hidden voice recordings with various philosophical and existential quotes. I see something new every time I play this, and it's large enough and diverse enough to occupy you for 30 minutes casual play, or 3 days of hyperfocus 😂. AND it's just an aesthetic pleasure to play, a complete sensory experience.

I don't really play video games, but as far as games you can download to a mobile phone go, DragonVale is one of my special interests and it always really relaxes me; the gist is that you have to breed different types of dragons together to collect different breeds. It's also similar to what you were saying about Cosy Grove in that you run out of things to do after playing it for a while at one time, so it's hard to lose too much time. Would definitely recommend to anyone whose looking for something like that 🙂

Horror: Resident Evil games in general, Soma, The Last of Us are some of my favourites…..are there any other Aspies here who enjoy horror? Puzzle: The Witness, Sally Face (which is a little on the horror side too), Machinarium….to name a few. Walking Simulators: Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Firewatch. I just really love story based, single player video games in general. They are worlds I can switch off and sink into, unlike navigating the real world where I often feel like a cat trapped inside a washing machine.

More games I'd recommend are: Cloud Gardens (i play on pc, i dont know what's on the switch bc i dont own one :[ ) in cloud gardens you grow plants overtop the lefover ruins of humanity, it's very pretty and calming!! Townscaper is the next game, it's like 6$ in the steam store and i have a lot of fun with it. it's just building a town from nothing in the middle of an ocean, there's no resource gathering, just placing and building and figuring out how to get certain structures :). Finally there's Powerwash Simulator. if you've seen the game you know why i put it here, it's good for just putting yourself to a mindless task that isn't too boring and is honestly pretty satisfying!!

also, playing minecraft on peaceful or even easy with keep inventory on can be pretty relaxing for me, no stressing about losing my stuff or mobs (if im on peaceful), just exploring and building :)

Look up "House flipper" a game about remodeling/decorating houses. Absolutely stress-free and probably the only time I could paint the walls and not feel terrible from the paint fumes. 😁

My partner and I also try to avoid stressful games sometimes. We put in 150 hours playing Divinity: original sin 2. It's dark fantasy and there's loads of combat in it, but it's all turn based so it plays more like a strategy game. It's complex, long and has a good story and can be played with someone else throughout. It's the best of its kind, but would probably not recommend it for young children.

If you like puzzles, try Stray Cat Doors, it's a real cozy wind down before bed kind of game.

Games that are on a time limit are the worst in my book. My friends wanted me to join Songpop, but I get really stressed by the timer. Puzzle and exploring type games have always been my favourite, and not those where monsters pop up all of a sudden. Makes sense now I guess 😅

I'm weird when it comes to games though don't think this is autistism related. I don't like games that have a lot of redundant graphics that don't mean anything or are not essential to the gameplay itself, which is most games especially platformers. In the games I like everything has to have a meaning else why put it there. That's why I still like some of the 8 bit games best which are magical in that sense. Or any 3d game that fulfills that criteria. The main exception to that rule is if the graphics are breathtakingly realistic wrt real time lighting I can gaze at the interaction with the lighting. It's not really an exception though. Good selection those look relaxing

Yes, Nintendo 64 is the correct console. It was the very first console my dad got me, and I got a Playstation years later. I think I was okay with adrenaline games, but I have anxiety relating to time and the fact I was slower at completing classwork than others, so I can't do time-based games. My favorite cozy game is Patchworkz, which you can play online. I love games where I can put things together like a puzzle piece. This video reminds me that I have been doing a very poor job with self-care lately and should do cozy things.

Probably mentioned so many times is Stardew Valley. I bonded with my ND daughter through this and it's such a "I dont want to do anything but repetetive stuff" or "I actually want a challenge". It can be cosy and when that gets boring you can just explore caves and fight creatures but when that gets enough, just go back to your farm, do puzzly things etc. Unpacking I loved as not only was it cosy but it told a story but purely through unpacking someones things throughout the years, I just wanted more of it but they never did DLC. There's a game called "A Little to the Left" and its cosy and a bit of a game where you try to solve a situation by sorting, stacking, arrranging things where they fit but there isn't just one solution for each puzzle. It's just satisfying though when I look at that shelf over there I wonder how I can organise digitally but I look at the shelving unit and thing its too much.

Unpacking and animal crossing really are brilliant games. I'll have a look at the other recommendations as need something new to play. I can't cope with being chased in games at all.
