Xenoblade Chronicles - Main Theme (ft. Patti Rudisill/PitTan/Animevivi/Israfelcello/MusicontheDLo)

OMG you guys. This excites me to no end--I have been DYING to share this one, because XCDE inspired me to pull out all of my old Xenoblade chamber arrangements, revamp and improve them and finally make a concerted effort to get some really, REALLY good recordings of them once and for all. I wrote this one back in 2017 and it was the first one I had to try to revisit, since it's one of my favorite title screen themes like ever ever ever. If you've been following me for some time you know that Animevivi and I have worked closely on all our Xenoblade arrangements and we're going to try to pull them all into an album at long last, which has been a longtime dream for us, as we both love this game and the OST.
Fortunately for us lol, Patti Rudisill fell hard into Xenoblade hell after beating the game and was on board, as well as my perpetual partner in crime Israfelcello, and I reached out to fellow Xenoblade fan PitTan with whom I have been wanting to work together for years. I met MusicontheDLo at Magfest 2020 after seeing him play a kickass show with DS Music, and I was so happy to finally have befriended a bass player that I expanded my original arrangement of this theme for string quartet to string quintet, and asked him if he would be willing to play, and was so excited he agreed! (Not that the original needed bass necessarily, it was more for my curiosity than anything else but after hearing all the parts together I was like OK IT'S NEVER NOT GOING TO HAVE BASS FROM NOW ON LOL THIS IS AWESOME. Also with Danny holding down the fort that freed me up to rewrite the cello line to shoot Andrew into treble clef territory where he belongs lol)
The hardest part of all of this was mixing so many instruments by myself but I am really grateful to James Hoffmann for giving me so many great pointers and feedback, plus to Patti and Danny for tips on learning how to make a six way split screen video, which was a harrowing and hellish experience that I will undoubtedly be repeating in the near future because that's just how I roll lol.
This came out so, SO BEAUTIFULLY I was literally crying. Like I already had high expectations, knowing I had somehow assembled the dream string crew and they still blew me away when I heard all the lines together. Israfelcello and PitTan and Patti killing it on those emotional solos and Animevivi adding so much momentum with those transitions because I gave him the horn parts lmao, and Danny brought in so much power with that bass sound, I felt like I was literally just there doing dinky stuff while they built up this amazing tide of Shimomura strings awesomeness. I am just beyond thrilled knowing so many wonderful string players willing to put up with my BS omg!!!!!! THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!
I'll be reworking Agniratha day theme and the instrumental version of Beyond the Sky and possibly a few other tracks for sure, though don't expect those uploads for a while since with so many collaborators involved, it takes a while to put everything together. There are no words that can express how much I love your rendition of this piece. You all nailed it SO WELL. The musicality you all have captures not only the original feel of the piece but adds your own depth and color to it, really making it shine. It truly is one of the best title screen tracks and is now only made better by this arrangement. Please please please please make an audio download of it so we can listen to it outside of KZbin's compression (FLAC please?). Though, I suppose that's a request for all of your music! Lol. Also, if you ever need a mandolin in any of your music, I'll be happy to lend it. I'm not the best mandolin player around but I love doing video game music on it. Just one more voice to your arsenal of arranging. :)

When I saw this was finally unveiled I knew I would be heartbroken over how amazing it would sound. This gave me flashbacks to my original playthrough back on the Wii where I fell in love with the game and this song in particular and it always make me cry hearing it. Bravo this was amazing!

You really just fixed my #1 problem with the original piece: it's impossible to listen to it from start to finish on the same volume without either not being able to hear any of the intro or going deaf when they hit that big crescendo. Your cover is great-you don't have to suddenly turn it from 100% volume to 20% halfway through the piece. Very pog

But is Xenoblade Chronicles that good? How do you compare it to Kingdom Hearts? I take it you have played both - not me, just KH. Given your opinion I might give it a go, as I have a Wii.

oh geez they're both so different it's so hard to say. I prefer Xenoblade, but if you have a Switch I HIGHLY recommend playing the Definitive Edition just for the QoL improvements and easy mode since the Wii version can get kinda grindy esp near the end and most people end up rage quitting when the difficulty ramps up. Story and music are top notch! As for KH, I mean...I'm not really a fan of the series, but my kids are. We played the mainline games 1-3, BBS, DDD, and fragmentary passage. My favorite is Birth by Sleep, so i highly recommend giving that one a try. It's hard to jump into the mainline games without having played them all in order and the first one hasn't aged that well in terms of gameplay imo, but you can still enjoy BBS without all of the context of the main story.
