H-24's incident report: "On 9/18/23, at approximately 9:17 AM, TFC Tanner Hess initiated a pursuit with a white Toyota Camry (OH LPN: JKZ2103) near the 77 mile marker on I-40 eastbound. I became the primary unit in the pursuit after the suspect vehicle passed by me near the 84 mile marker. While behind the suspect vehicle, I observed the driver traveling at speeds in excess of 130 MPH and passing vehicles on the shoulder. I had to slow for traffic near the 88 mile marker and TFC Hess became the primary unit in the pursuit. TFC Hess had to leave the pursuit near the 98 mile marker due to damage to his tires. I became the primary unit in the pursuit and Cpl. Paul Meeks was the secondary unit at this time. The suspect took the 101 exit and turned left (north) onto Fishlake Road. The vehicle traveled approximately 1 mile north on Fishlake Road before slowing. Due to the suspect's manner of driving, I believed he was a danger to the public and performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), striking the rear driver's side of the vehicle to end the pursuit. Cpl. Meeks and I performed a felony arrest on the suspect, Michael Hart, without incident. I searched the vehicle due to the odor of marijuana. In the trunk, I located a bag containing approximately 8 ounces of suspected marijuana. I lifted the flooring to access the spare tire and found a .22 rifle. TFC Hess arrived on scene and took possession of the marijuana and the weapon. TFC Hess also took custody of Hart. Broadway Towing towed the vehicle."

Also the initial semi they were passing could have just moved their foot off the gas for a minute so that the passing situation could have been resolved more quickly. But you rarely see that either. Though I guess that goes for all drivers. You see blue lights, pull your foot off the gas, unless they are right behind you, in which case clear the lane ASAP

@@baldhermit take yesterday for example. I see an ambulance on an over pass, so what do I do? I watch the ramp to see if it's coming into the highway and it was... So I'm now in front of them, and the left lane was covered in slush and snow. I know the ambulance doesn't do anyone any good if it loses control and goes in to the median so I not only cut down my speed and hit the fourway flashers, I move to the shoulder and slow down more so it gets them in front of me faster and they didn't need to use the lane that was still partly snow covered. Once they passed I just kept going about my business.

I like the way the officers initiate the arrest. They get the perps full attention quickly while instilling some fear.This also let's the adrenaline filled cops release some built up energy and tension. They usually back off quickly though once the perp is in custody.

The chasing cars will always need to go much faster to catch up. If the patrol cars are doing 125 - 130 and the car they are chasing is doing 120 - 125 but not obeying any traffic laws, the chasing cars will always have trouble chasing them down with traffic.
