Thanks, those comparisons are the best ones I’ve come across. I’ve gone over hundreds of videos during the last couple of weeks, in an effort to decide if I should change my humbuckers to single coils. Today I found out about this splitting thing, and super glad I don’t have to choose between humbuckers and single coils. I can have them both!

Finally decided on this and a hard neck-on switch on the neck/mid tone control rather than a blend to keep both tone controls instead of master tone. Grounded with a 2K ohm resistor to balance the split output with the middle single. Also used push-push pots for ease and speed. Single coil bridge + neck = Happy!

I like your video. I'm NEW to wiring. A wanna-be. I am tempted to series/parallel all 3 dual rail humbuckers on my guitar as 1st project. BUT! Bridge buckers are high output compared with the mid and neck. Is it advisable to split or do series/parallel to low output pups?? Or do you simply wind up with the mid and neck sounding like a whisper when altered?? Nobody talks about this in ANY videos.i do thank you for your opinion. PLEASE!

thaqt black hot wire on my player series goes to my switch. if i did a push pull tone knob would the black wire still go to the switch as it is from the factory? the player series has a coil split in 2nd position from Fender factory. thank you for this clear video

yes, the black wire should stay hot, the finish wires will go to the push pull. check fenders color charts to confirm which two colors they are. guitarelectronics.com is a great resource!

Great video first off. Second, if I have the green/white wires connected to the push/pull (on my tone knob BTY) where would I connect the red, black red, black and bare wires?? After your video, Im almost there with this Les Paul.

Black wire will be hot to the pot lug on most led Paul’s, red and bare are ground (usually the back of the volume pot casing). This is assuming it’s Porter color codes.,

Hello nice video i often observe when there is a coil split a much lower output because it becomes single so the sound is much lower. But how to manage to keep to have the same level of sound ? Is there something we can do to avoid this problem ?

yes it's a 500k. if you can use a screwdriver to tap and make sure only one side of the humbucker is making noise when pulled. If not, you might need to move some wires

yes! the bottom section with the lugs can be hooked up like a regular pot and will function like the volume, the top part is separate function for the split

hello! im planning to add a toggle switch on my guitar to activate the neck pickup and i already have a push push split coil on my tone pot for my bridge humbuckers. should I do the same as you did on your add neck strat mod video or is the wiring different now that i have a push push split coil on my tone pot? thanks!!

you can look at the add neck mini toggle on google and it will show you how to wire it up, and you don't have to mess with anything on the push pull

Hey man, please help. I have a hss strat, that auto splits the humbucker in position 2 with the middle pickup. I wanted to install a push pull to split the humbucker. The 2 hots from humbucker I took from the switch and soldered to the push pull. I added a ground wire from there. The guitar works in all positions with full humbucker and split, except for position 2, there is no sound whatsoever. Position 1 and 3 work fine. Any ideas what I could have done wrong?

double check the 5-way switch and compare to a regular strat wiring. you need to make sure something from each pickup is still going to the switch. something is not connecting when you are in the bridge/middle then check to see if there's a wire connecting both sides of the switch and going to the volume pot.

I wired my push-pull exactly like this and it's reversed, split when pushed in and humbucking when pulled up. I've double and triple checked my wiring and even been on the phone with dimazio tech as it is one of my their push on pull pots I bought right from them. They were baffled and no help. Any body have any ideas.

hard to say what it might be, if the ground wires running from the bottom lug to ground (Closest to the pot) and the finish of the coils (Depending on the company color codes) are to the middle lug on the same side it should work. the lug furthest from the pot should be empty. if it's not, that might be why its backwards

I got the same thing but then after i upgraded my humbucker at the guitar shop Im not sure either if this is right does this affect youre tone when your humbucker is full open with the knob up

@@alternativejeff3775 it depends on the rest of the function for the pot (If you have it as volume or tone) but it should be split when pulled. Is the pot grounded on the lug of the push pull closest to the main part of the pot?

How about the slash alnico II with 2 wire instead 4 braided wire.is it possible to install push/pull pots?

You would need to modify the pickup internally to make it work properly

You’d probably need to look at a 4 conductor internal picture or diagram than shows north and sound starts and finishes to get the 4 conductor installed right depending on the color codes you choose. You’ll have to remove the ground and inner hot wire from the metal braided and isolate each coils start and finish

It’s the inner solid wire of the cloth hookup wire.

2.5 k for bridge and 1.5k for neck is what PRS uses in place of the jumper wired.IE it partially shunts one of the coils but not entirely.
