The preliminary numbers are in.
My calculations (vicprop) gave me a speed off 2.8 knots for my 12.5 ton (weighed) boat with 1KW, in less then optimal conditions the measured speed was 2.9 knots so I am really happy.
The mount was temporary and in the wrong angle when powered up (man this engine has a lot off torgue). So I think a bit over 3 knots will be the endspeed.
While motoring I am charging the Sprit with 500 watt which still gives me 2.3 knots charged by solar (battery/inverter/charger), slow but better then dieselnoise, and in paradise we are not in a hurry,
We did 11 miles and the battery was half full when we arived. The last part was even upwind with six knots wind. (boatspeed only 2 knots 1kw)
Motorsailing is even more fun, 4 knots wind 270 degree windangle becomes upwind with a little assistance. Will give the numbers after more testing.
I am so impressed with this 1 kw spirit that I think my next project will be to get a 3kw EV0 and design a swivel mount for it so I can also use it when sailing for regen and powering. No hurry because the first reason I tried this is because I had no use for the excess solarpower we had and I am already very happy with these numbers.
First steps into making our boat into a mild hybrid so we even use less diesel in the future.

Wow. The amazing power and torque of an electric motor. We all all looking forward to electric propulsion becoming the standard for new and retro fit boats - both large and small vessels. Well done.

Thanks yes I think making your sailyacht into a mild hybrid with an extra small pod is a good step forward in the transition to full electric. I am now thinking off a 3kw pod so I can do lightwind manoeuvres and the regen is stronger then the kw.

@@sander2266 just curious. have you considered either hydrogeneration and/or solar charging to extend the range and battery life for your outboard electric? seems like a great idea but there is always a practical consideration. I run a 50 Foot Wooden Trawler so I cannot test the hydrogeneration features.

@@sander2266 Thanks for the great video. It is surprisingly good what a 1kw e-pod can give you. Can you explain what makes you think about the 3kw instead of the 6kw pod, moneywise there are very close to each other? A 6kw should be enough for 99% of your needs and the regeneration would be much better.

Ha I missed some questions I hope I can answer them in one go. I have 750 watt solar and can charge the spirit with 500 watts. With a internal batterypackage I can charge faster and will ad more solar. Regen is a a great addition even if it only ads like 150 watts at 6 knots it is great if you sail 12 hours a night. And when you are close to hull speed you barely notice it in speed.. I read different stores about the real regen numbers. And you need speed like the real fun start above 6 knots. The 3kw or the 6kw is a good question. If I would mount a pod I would for sure take the 6kw but attached to the transom the 12 kg more for the 6kw is a bit much. I can lift 24 kg with one hand but 36 is already a lot more difficult. I am also thinking off a removable mount. The 6kw has better regen wich is great the speed difference will not be very big big full throttle between 3kw and 6 kw.. The powerconsumption will be double and I am looking for a long range and slow solution. With the 3kw I will mostly use it a lot 1 kw anyway. That give double the range off going going at 2kw. And 4 times the range off 4 kw. The efficiency off the 3kw and 6kw will be the same

Pretty good! I have moved my 10 tonne boat from one slip to another with one hand, so I figured you would succeed. Conditions are everything, and if you set the angle right I think it will do even better.

Thank you, just had a major breakdown of my diesel engine so I would not mind a good discount on a 3kw pod and battery, in return I will make a great video. (way better then this clip of course;-)

Thanks for sharing! We are looking at repowering a 16 foot, 2,400 pound (1.2 ton) pontoon boat and I have been looking at both the Spirit 1.0 EVO and the Navy 3.0 trying to decide which way to go. I really like the idea of having the battery attached to the motor like the Spirit, but have wondered if I will be happy with the runtimes. But at least from this video I can see that the 1.0 has no problem moving the boat.

The max speed depend on length off the boat and resistance. Running at 3 kw will go a bit faster but your range could be less then half. But the good thing about eletric is that if you use the 3k at a 1kw output it will be just as good as the spriti. So for manoeuvring in strong wind the 3kw will work better. I prefer the batteries inside the boat and since you do not need the regeneration you an use other cheaper lifepo4 batteries. (or longer range for the same money). If you do not have shore or solar power to charge the batteries then the spirit is maybe a better option to charge it at home. But it is only 1.2 kwh and the range will be small.
