Good video! Ive done much of that route in years gone by! It was good to see it from the comfort of my couch! Thanks!

Some pretty gnarly sections and that cliff at about 20 miles in!!! You’re quite strong and courageous! Thanks for taking me along from the comfort of my recliner 😜!

I'm a road biker, so a rock the size of a golf ball makes me nervous. I absolutely can't believe this kind of terrain is rideable! You guys are amazing.

Haha understandable! It’s crazy what these bikes-and our feet-can go through.

Great video! I rode the CT in honor of my father-in-law (documented on KZbin) last year so seeing all your hike-a-bike gave me PTSD. Great job!!!

Watching now. 😊. What a great idea. Riding a section of the Colorado trail and start in Salada❤. Finished watching. Nicely done. Looked challenging. @Marshall pass, I remember it well. It started hailing madly after the summit. Then it stopped as quickly as it started, thankfully, as I was shivering and my hands were numb.

Hey Bret! Yeah, isn’t it crazy how quickly you can get cold in high elevations? And then you’re likely to get colder on the descent! Thanks again for the watch, I always appreciate it!

It's a shame you didn't get to ride to the Alpine Tunnel station. It's really well preserved and worth a stop if you ever ride through the area again. Great video and thanks for putting in the effort to film! The Vapor Trail is tough!

I’m lucky in that I was able to do the original route in 2022. But we would’ve missed the moose, so I’m glad it worked out this way this time! Glad you enjoyed the video 😊

Thanks for watching, Mike! That’s a great idea…I haven’t done a vid for my mtb gear setup. My bike and gear are listed on the Bikepacking.com 2024 Grand Loop page: bikepacking.com/bikes/rigs-of-the-2024-grand-loop/ This is pretty much what I used for the Vapor Trail, except I used my full-size Zeitgeist bag for this one! And in case you missed it, here’s my gear video for the GDMBR: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKu3ioV-e86aj9ksi=AZcZzFka_ixe1Qsc

Wonderful backcountry to visit on the bike. I hope to ride this someday as a long weekend. Though I don't think I can make it in the 3 days that you crank it out in. I'll need 4-days which means more weight, but also more time to enjoy.
@katrinahase3 ай бұрын
More time in the backcountry = more enjoyment! If you plan it right to hit the St. Elmo mercantile, you can get a bit of a resupply there. They also have good hiker/biker stock in the Monarch Pass gift shop.
@rgilmore283 ай бұрын
@@katrinahase while traversing the state as a weekend warrior across the Colorado Trail and my MTB I did discover the joys of ice cream at the Monarch Pass. Looping the west side of the CT this way really seems doable. Plus that stop at St. Elmo general store makes it really nice. I wonder if they’d let me stash gear for a day? Lighten the bike on that first day of hike-a-bike.

This trail looks really fun! (in a type 2 sense) Do you have any recommendations for someone who wants to try it as well?
@katrinahase3 ай бұрын
Yes! It’s absolutely worth it! I bring a tent for this one because you’ll likely need to shelter from rain. There’s plentiful water, so you can carry light for that. If you can tolerate a backpack, it can help get weight off your bike for the hike-a-bike section. There are several options for coming down off the Monarch Crest Trail…stop in at Absolute Bikes in Salida for a map; they can give some great advice too (they run the race based on this route). Hit me up on Instagram DMs if you have more questions!
