One of THE BEST on youtube for Rebelle. Clear and direct. No meandering and wandering off, unlike Escape Motion channel. Clear pronouciation. Great vocal audio recording. Zoom in feature is THE BEST.

If this is the direction you're thinking of taking in your art then I applaud it. It seems a natural progression of your looser brushstroke style. Awesome master study... seems almost fine art like :) Congrats on the Star Wars coup

Thank you, Brent! I appreciate you, brother! Yeah, I need to see how I can balance these splatters and impasto strokes in my personal stuff going forward, it's a blast!

Great tips and fun watching you work, Wes. Never been a big fan of Rebelle's "drips" but I think you used them to good effect here. Also, it was fun to hear you mention my favorite software, Clip Studio. I'm mostly an Indie Comics artist and use its inking tools with Vector Layers *_extensively._* I've even used the app in lieu of some of Photoshop's production features with good results. I need to get back into Rebelle!

I've found your channel yesterday through some older Rebelle videos on Escape Motions channel. And I was sad there is not many videos on your channel dedicated to this program. And now you released this video like if you read my mind :D

Hahah, thank you so much, Thamnos! I definitely plan on making some more Rebelle-exclusive videos in the future, it's such a fun program to experiment with!

Wow what a great teaching session- and- blasting out a Wood master study like that - hats off to you. I'm learning Rebelle and I love it, but after several months I'm still using it like Krita with only the express oils, not yet taking full advantage of Rebelle's superb natural media engine. Just what I needed, very inspiring and confidence building!

Thank you tons, Karl! I appreciate the love, and Rebelle is a TREAT to use! It seems like there's always something new to learn inside of it!

good insights on how to use regular brush + watercolor! I also agree about the PhD needed for Corel Painter. I tried to like it, but the tool got in the way. With great flexibility comes great complexity I guess.

I get that glitch too and use Huion. I just thought of a work around. Make an oil brush into a pencil with "Pencil" brush creator settings. That might help.
@ArtOfWesGardner Жыл бұрын
Oh, that's a great idea! I'm having a hard time consistently re-creating the error, so I was wondering if it was maybe related to some mismatched "WinTab" driver setting or something causing certain brush types to not pick up pressure with 100% accuracy, but your idea would be an elegant solution regardless of driver stuff if that was the case!
@richardhaas1989 Жыл бұрын
@@ArtOfWesGardner I usually just take whatever brush I'm using make it small and use a dark Gray. But I think you have another solution! In the Reference Window, import a white or tone jpg and sketch there. The window can be sized to full screen and the lines appear on the Main window. No choice of brush there I think. With 7 just hours away I am going to try these ideas soon. Love the idea of using a REAL pencil and REAL paper and importing. A feel quite unlike stylus on glass.

Freaking awesome video! Thanks for all the tips on Rebelle! But what was that awes9me music in the background? That would be great to work to. Thanks!

Thanks for bringing up the issue with the pencil. This drives me nuts because I really prefer to sketch out with a pencil tool. The most satisfying drawing experience IMO is Adobe Fresco (for iPad). On PC, I've got a few good pencils for Clip Studio, but I don't like changing applications. FWIW, I use a Wacom and it's still a problem; not just Huion.

Really great video .. getting into many of the great aspects of my favourite digi-painting app. My only suggestion would be to turn down or lose the background music as it is imo sometimes overly distracting. Nice one otherwise! 🙂. Thx

Are there any books on learning to draw and paint you could recommend?
@ArtOfWesGardnerАй бұрын
I have quite a few! On my shop (www.wesgardner.art/shop) if you scroll down to 'Wes Recommends', I have a curated list that includes stuff like Framed Ink by Marcos Mateu-Mestre, Color & Light by James Gurney, Creative Illustration by Andrew Loomis (really anything by Loomis is fantastic), and How To Draw by Scott Robertson. All available on Amazon!

My problem with rebelle is colors,all others software have more brilliant colors,that's why didn't buy 6,maybe is me,but I can recognise paintings with rebelle,colours are cold dull,even most saturated reds.I love everything else.
@timpetty574411 ай бұрын
could u do dirtbrush with painter too?
@ArtOfWesGardner11 ай бұрын
Yo! So yes, I think using certain brush types (like anything on the 'Sargent' category, for instance) could give you some really nice "dirty brush" looks, as it takes color from underneath, and integrates it within the new color you've selected, and has some great "tapered edges" on the brush shapes. It makes for a VERY convincing dirty brush look!

Hey :) loved the video. One question: do you think this is doable with krita? Im a huge fan of ashley wood and my dream is to paint like him, so ive started with krita but i dont know if its capabld of this. Btw do you do even private lessons?
@ArtOfWesGardner Жыл бұрын
So technically, I definitely think it's doable! However, you'll have to find a few "tricks" to get that truly traditional painting look. The easiest one is to take a photo of a canvas (or find a stock photo to license of some canvases), and apply it on top of your artwork as an "Overlay" layer, and lowering the opacity down to like 15%-30% depending on your preference. And be sure to use the RGBA Brushes that come with the newest versions of Krita (5+), as they have fantastic "real paint" looks with impasto and wet, blended edges. Hope this helps!
@ArtOfWesGardner Жыл бұрын
Also, regarding the private lessons, I'm currently taking a small break from them (as I have a 2 year old and an 8-week old baby), but I'll probably be opening the main slots back up in 2024!
@fedlon Жыл бұрын
@@ArtOfWesGardner lovely, thanks for both answers. And, if i dont disturb you, theres a Place where i can contact you Just to be sure ive undersrood well the strategy to get a real traditional Paint? Btw, the rgba brush pack comes with the Canvas mode (u can choose 3 different papers), i dont know if that Is what you meant. Othewise, Is there a video that shows what you meant with that Canvas photo appy as overlay level?
@fedlon Жыл бұрын
@@ArtOfWesGardner oh and last thing: since im in the beginning of this journey, should i consider buy and learn on rebelle directly? Or theres some "pros"/ advantage of krita (beyond the fact that Is free) that make It Better for me? Also, how would you reproduce the "water color drop dipping" with krita? Sorry for the question but im quite confused as you can see. Btw: nice thing that you give your kids the priority :)

I know exactly the issue you describe and it's been putting me off working with Rebelle. Which is a shame since I paid good money for the new version and it's just disappointing. For me, when my workflow gets disrupted, it's just hard to get back into a painting. I'll probably come back to Reb6 once they iron out the memory leak or whatever is the issue. But until then, well, it's a pleasure seeing you work. The painting came out wonderfully.

Thank you tons, Baralin! I'm working with Escape Motions about this "pencil running out of lead" problem we seem to have, I'm hoping we can pinpoint what may be causing it! It's frustrating because it's not an error that can be easily replicated from what I've found (and tested), it seems to be great some days, then other days things just won't "click", if that makes sense. I'm sure Escape Motions will keep everyone in the loop if we find something after digging a bit more!

could HISTORY be the cause of your pencil "running out of ink"? what's your RAM ? if you save and restart, then the problem goes away, then its likely too much undo history

why doesn't my cursor look like yours?
@ArtOfWesGardner8 ай бұрын
I think I went into the Properties window, and under "Tools", there was something about "show cursor" under settings, with a lot of settings underneath (like changing brush mode icons, brush size based on pressure, stuff like that). That should help get what you need!

Dirty brush mode works best with the brush set to paint. Dirty brush mode doesn't work that well with paint and mix or paint and blend.
