Thank you so much, I love you guys! This is the best video I have found on how to test Victa ignition coils and fix my mower.

Thank you for your video it's the only one I found that shows how to test it off the engine
@theduder26176 жыл бұрын
Continuity will not determine a good/bad coil however. It can register even when the coil's resistance is beyond operating specs. It is best to stick with the 20kohm setting for determining the condition of the coil's functionality, since it's resistance can be quite low if the failure is a shorted coil, and rather high for an overheated and weakened coil. Use a lower ohms setting when testing the primary coil winding.

Thank you so much !!! My brush cutter is not starting. I checked the coil and found it has 4.53 Kilo Ohms. Is it faulty level for brush cutter ignition coil ?

Hi, thank you for your video, a question please, if the one/two terminals gives continuity to the metal part which has the 2 bolts to assemble, is that means that it's shorted to ground and it's faulty? Thank you in advance 😊😊😊

I'm pretty sure the Victa powertorque mower I have has the coil with the module built into the coil,I can't find an external mounted module which is normally found near the carby. I had an ignition reading of around 14.7 k ohms on the secondary winding today & I found out there was an issue with the kill switch shorting out inside the carby. So I just removed the wires from the carby & found out that all of the sudden,I had spark. Since I have the carby removed I just refitted the spark plug & lead then chucked some fuel down into the intake. All I wanted to prove today is that the mower actually runs & sure enough after a few pulls of the starter cord she fired over for 5 - 10 seconds. So, that one still needs a full overhaul as it has sat out in the rain & the engine was full of water which has rusted out the crankshaft bearings, they are Pitted & noisy. The carby does need an overhaul ,a new primer bulb front plate is needed & the deck needs rust removal so I'll end up with a good lawnmower.

Yes some more recent power torque engines have coils with the module integrated into the coil, These units typically measure in the range of 14.5 K ohms. Best of luck with your rebuild!

hey guys I don't see a Victim ignition coil for sale on your website, is there one you recommend to purchase online? I see some on eBay for as little as $15, is that too cheap to be good quality?
@craigyorston15938 жыл бұрын
that should say Victa :-/
@Pushmowerrepair8 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig we can supply genuine coils however they are $115, if purchasing a coil of ebay I would suggest around the $40 mark for a good quality coil.

when you turn the key on lawn mower there sound like is no power getting to the starter. sound like it clunk but nothing happens. would it be wiring or starter?
@Pushmowerrepair9 жыл бұрын
Clifford Anderson It could be both wiring or starter. The most common cause of that issue would also be a flat battery.

Thanks for your video. I have a huskvarna chainsaw model 235 I tested the ignition coil the way you teach here and I have 3k omhs. In this video you mention that readings above 12k would mean a bad coil but how about low reading as mine does, do you think it is bad too? thanks
@Pushmowerrepair8 жыл бұрын
Hi Charli the reading varies depending on the coil type so we do not know the required reading for your particular coil

Quick question - I notice your meter seems to stay on 1 when testing bad coil in the 20K ohms range sometimes. Mine will stay on OL is that the same?

+riski mara We do not have a wiring diagram available for this coil or ignition system
@riskimara33998 жыл бұрын
can you explaind how this ignition system work sir ? thank u
@Pushmowerrepair8 жыл бұрын
+riski mara The coil has a primary and secondary coil connected in series, There is also an ignition module which is sometimes included in the coil or sometimes attached to the engine below the carburetor as a separate module.

What about other coils, are you also looking for 9.2 to 9.5?
@Pushmowerrepair10 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what valve you would be looking for in other coils, the best way to know is to check a brand new one for reference, i wouldn't expect many coils to operate on higher then 13 but can't be sure. as a rough guide lower resistance is better as it should make it easier for the spark to travel to the plug.

I've 2.5. Omes on my old coil ....no we're near 9.5 ....I've bought a new on still 2.5 omes on this one as well ....don't no what to do ? Can you help plz cheers
@Pushmowerrepair7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mate if your coil is the same as the one it the video it would be faulty. If your coil is different the required reading will also be different so 2.5 k ohms could be a good or bad reading I do not know
@warrenh64295 жыл бұрын

Good information. I just found your videos and being a restorer of Victas and other mowers for displays at Rallies I find your videos helpful.Is there a way of testing the electronic module from a Victa 160cc using a multimeter?

Anyone know the answer to this?? We'd rather not spend $70+ dollars on a part we may not really need for an onan mower. (electronic module).

My coil on Kolher XT 6 is reading 760 on 20K resistance. Is it Ok ?
@Pushmowerrepair9 жыл бұрын
***** Different brands of coils have different specifications, we do not know the correct reading for your coil, But the fact you are getting a reading is positive and suggests the inner circuit is connected as it should be.
@jessicastaggs56078 жыл бұрын
Mine is at 6.18. Based on your range, I'm assuming that it's bad.

I have a blue spark when checking plug when grounded against engine. Since the weedeater still will not start and I already have replaced lines, filter, carburetor, plug and etc, ..is it possible that the ignition module is weak, not putting out enough spark? Thoughts? Thanks..
@Pushmowerrepair8 жыл бұрын
+NPartipilo A blue spark is usually a sign of a strong spark, from the sounds of things I would be checking the compression of your engine.

@Pushmowerrepair8 жыл бұрын
Hi Russell A low reading like that suggests your coil is internally shorted and would not be working correctly
@MrAvant1235 ай бұрын
You cannot reliably test an ignition coil this way. Many coils are okay when cold but fail to deliver spark once hot I have seen this many times on 2 stroke engines.

why my lawnmower is breaking brand new ignition coils
@theduder26176 жыл бұрын
It has been a while since you posted, but if you are still battling this problem, check for excess oil around any part of the ignition system. If there is oil around the spark plug, and/or in, on and around the spark plug wire boot, it causes excess drain on the secondary winding of the coil which is basically an enclosed Tesla coil. Even a plug wire with oil on the outside insulation can cause rapid premature coil failure. Same applies to the coil itself.
