My problem with Giroud's goal is that it's hard to know whether he intended the result or was just trying to get a foot on the ball. I'm no pro, but I've done similar things. The pass presents you with nothing else so you try to redirect it in the hopes that something good will come out of it - you get the keeper or a defender going the wrong way, maybe a rebound falls back to you or your teammate. The second place goal - the keeper was trying to do what he did.
