Russia is a federal republic, based on freedom and democracy, similar to the US, even with the three branches of checks and balances: Executive, Judicial and Legislative branches. This is common all over the world, Nations must work together to hold their Government and process accountable, and to force it to progress in the favor of the people. It doesn't magically happen all at once. When you allow politicians to take your rights away, like freedom of speech, you give them the tools they need to steal elections.... and make people afraid to speak out or vote in opposition. Checks and balances.. it's not as easy as we would all like it to be. But it is a fight worth fighting if there is to ever be freedom in regards to Governments.
