Regarding war crimes and atrocities in World War II - the USSR also did a long list of war crimes and atrocities. There's a book - "The Soviet Occupation of Romania, Hungary and Austria, 1944-48" - that is a scholarly look based on contemporaneous police records. It describes a reign of terror committed by Soviet troops in those countries. The story it tells lines up exactly with the atrocities Russian troops are doing today in Bucha/Irpin/etc. The same military culture - USSR==Russia - 80 years apart doing the same atrocities. My friends in Romania tell me about those times. I know the book I named is telling the truth because of what folks have described that their parents and grandparents endured. The atrocities were not just German - they were Russian, just as Russians are doing them today.

Just wanted to make a comment about Russian soldiers. About 30 years ago myself and a few other American soldiers visited the Russia War Museum. There were Russian soldiers as security. As I walked past a hidden nook one of the soldiers got my attention and motioned for me to meet him. I walked in and he began to offer me the medals on his uniform for 20 East German Marks. I bought a couple and other of our soldiers also bought medals from several Russian soldiers and one American bought a soldier’s uniform hat. That made a terrible impression on me regarding their ethics and loyalty to their Army and country.

So the Russian ruble is now worth the same as an American penny (which is fixed to 1/100 of a dollar). The penny is the smallest value of American currency, and many people say that it is so small in value as to be worthless, and we should take the pennys out of circulation.
@daniellarson30682 ай бұрын
A penny saved is a penny earned - Ben Franklin A ruble saved is a waste of your time.
@jeremykraenzlein59752 ай бұрын
@daniellarson3068 I have actually seen that Benjamin Franklin quote used as an argument for keeping the penny, even though it now costs more than a penny to make each penny in a mass production assembly line. If we got rid of the penny, then future generations will see that quote and not know what he's talking about. Those who want to get rid of the penny call that a weak argument, and thus further proof of how worthless the penny is if that is the best reason to keep them.
@bunzeebear29732 ай бұрын
