Putin plans 'surprise' Ukraine offensive after Bakhmut battle? Russia overhauls missile defences

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to upgrade Moscow's air and missile defences. The upgrade of the Russian capital's defences comes amid an escalating war against Ukraine. Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said that the upgrade would not only involve a change in the composition of the forces tasked with protecting the city, but also a new regiment armed with medium-range anti-missile systems. Meanwhile, Russia has been intensifying its offensive on the frontline. Heavy fighting continues in Ukraine's east with Russian troops pounding areas in Donetsk and around Bakhmut. The point is that Ukraine knows that Bakhmut would eventually fall. The Ukraine military wanted to fix in place a large part of the Russian force while it planned their offensive elsewhere. The other point is that in holding fast they further degraded the Russian military's personnel and materiel. It took Russia 7 months to do this so Ukraine's objectives were achieved. At best it will be a hollow victory for Russia.
