Given Ukraine's manpower shortage, why does it limit its draft to men age 25 and older?! Very recently Ukraine lowered its draft age from 27 (the highest in world history) to 25 (the highest in world history except for Ukraine's previous draft age of 27). 25 is seven whole years past the age that men are subject to draft in the US and in most other countries -- age 18. Moreover, the US and many other countries have drafted their 18-year olds to fight for OTHER countries. For example, the US drafted 18-year old American men to fight for Korea, for Vietnam, and twice for western European countries such as France and Britain. If the US is willing to draft its 18-year olds to defend other countries, why isn't Ukraine willing to draft its 18-year olds to defend Ukraine?! For Christ sakes Ukraine isn't even willing to draft its 24-year olds despite Ukraine's very survival hanging in the balance! That's not exactly inspiring. I've been wondering why Ukraine's allies haven't made a stink about Ukraine's exceptionally high draft age. Maybe it's too un-inspiring. Maybe the allies fear that drawing attention to the Ukraine's draft age will get the Western public asking themselves the kinds of questions I've asked here, which could undermine public support for Ukraine. Regardless, it's past time for Ukraine to get serious and alleviate its manpower shortage by drafting 18-24 year olds. After all, most other countries have not only long drafted men in that age range but have drafted them even when those countries were not themselves in a desperate situation or at least they were not in a situation remotely as desperate as the one Ukraine is in.

Ukraine's biggest mistake is that it has not continued to train its civilian men in military tactics and skills. Thing along the lines of part time military service. Like the army reserves, national guard or teritotials. Russia has been continually training its conscripts, then as soon as they finish their term of conscription immediately mobilising them and sending them to Ukraine. Ukraine needs to train all of its men and trust that well trained men will volunteer to serve.

Ukraine could not afford to let prisoners serve because they are used for labor. In 2022, Ukraine had a standing army of 250k and another 150k volunteers joined and another 100k were mass mobilized. Russia entered war with only 200k troops and was massively under maned in manpower, Russia avoided mass mobilization and because Russia has had prison population of 500k they could afford to recruit 100k of the convicts but no more because they need them for labor as well. But now Ukraine suffering tremendous casualties all the volunteers have dried up thats why they now need another massive mobilization
