S Lavrov is one of the very few proven diplomats in this century. There were more like him still left after the near miss of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, which I remember. I was 12 at the time and in England. My grandfather and father (who had fought in the world wars respectively) saw Kennedy as more dangerous than Hitler and Stalin combined in terms of preparedness to sacrifice all humans in Europe, sizeable parts of the USA and parts of the then USSR. They both saw nuclear fall out (radiation) as far worse than the gas used in WW1 trenches and that it would spread all over the world by wind and currents. Vegetation and water would be toxic and a nuclear winter would extinguish most life forms. The Kennedys, of course, and others in power or with enormous wealth would maybe have safety in deep shelters but even they would go mad and eventually die. Fortunately for me, Kruschev called back the missile ships on their way to Cuba but without any fissile material. Less publicized until some years later was the fact that Kennedy had to remove nuclear missiles and bombs from Turkey and Italy and prove that he had. The restrictions on news about this marked the beginning of the end of access to the truth by ordinary people and the USA's practice of interfering in small conflicts (some of which it created) in a bid to be the dominant power on all continents. Lavrov listed a few of these from quite recent times but was gentlemanly enough to not mention Vietnam. He skillfully and truthfully exposed how the UN had begun well in being impartial but, just by quick references to a few examples, showed that it had betrayed its charter bit by bit. There was little need to say more and he observed the rules and standards of addressing the UNGA which too many other countries never even bothered to learn. Yes there are Russian forces in Ukraine but only a part of it. In effect, since Obama's time, the 30 year failed state was set up to be a proxy battleground and world chose to ignore the horrors of 2014 to 2022 in Donbas under warlords and mercenaries run by Kiev. Kharkiv and Sumy could have seen a civil war and conducted it against corrupt Kiev but because they had access for their goods via Russian railways that was averted. It could still happen but Russia slowly ran out of patience with the new president elected (by a whisker) in 2019. He proceeded to close down Civil Defense, stripped oblasts of autonomy, took over the media and starved to armed forces of equipment because he knew that America would supply it as part of their proxy war plan. In the meantime Zelenskyy ensured that vicious 'militias' via a criminal security company then based in Riga formed "cells" in suburbs and villages. Russia crossed the Donbas border in February 2022 and refugees left. However, examination of emigration between 2019 and then was already at record levels and border guards killed many. The Russian invasion effectively opened to gates to emigration but most refugees I know were not escaping the Russians.

Russia really wants to talk about Israel’s military response to the aggression of Hamas taken in October. The Russians want to paint a picture of US aggression via distorted facts of history. To be honest, the US military actions taken in Iraq should not have happened. That said, Russia does not want to talk about how Putin failed to honor the treaties with Ukraine by attempting to subdue the people of Ukraine through military aggression. This is a typical example if Russia distorting facts and trying to confuse the reality that Russia, not the US, is the country who has a history of failing to honor treaties. Russia is a country that Has hopes of restoring its imperial failures that are seen in the demise of the soviet union. The fall of the USSR is embarrassing and now Russia’s failure to subdue the Ukraine is an embarrassment. It makes complete sense that Russia wants to change the subject from its failures to the problems in Israel, Lebanon, Iran, and any other topic that will distract from their embarrassing incompetence. Putin may have been a competent KGB agent, but his incompetence as a leader of the Russian people is glaring. Had he not stolen so much of Russia’s money for his personal gain, and instead used those resources to better the Russian people, Russia might be better off today. All governments tell lies, but Russia is the finest example of it.
