"If you're getting getting these shells in the quantity that the North Koreans appear to be supplying, then a proportion of them don't work."
DPRK munitions supplied to Russia will be less accurate than Putin's Russian stocks, Ian Williams, Journalist and author of ‘The Fire of the Dragon: China’s New Cold War’ tells Frontline

The question of how NK munitions are shipped to the battlefront is interesting. Only rail and seaborne shipments are viable in large quantities. If by rail, the TransSiberian rail line is the only option which must cross the Amur River tunnel and the Ob River bridges to reach European Russia directly from North Korea. By sea, cargo container ships, watched by satellite, must pass through the Bering Strait and cross the Arctic Ocean to arrive at open Russian ports. Other routes are too long, too restrictive, and too expensive to be cost effective. Ukraine has demonstrated its ability to facilitate bombings, either by drones or by special forces, deep inside the Russian homeland. The severance of Siberia may be the next big step in dismantling the Russian empire.

Not Ukraine the US and NATO can do those bombing. Ukraine role is the drying part unfortunately and N Korea can send 1 million troops that NATO can not. N Korea needs food and energy which Russia can supply and Russia needs man power for its growing industries But the propaganda keeps on going strong in the west which makes us laugh in the global south and makes a good yarn in the evening pub

Could Iranian ports/rail hubs be used as a transit point?
@gregash7683

@@robgibson8387 Anything is possible, but a high risk for Iran. If unstable munitions are offloaded, transported, reloaded, shipped, then offloaded in Russia, what are the odds of accidents, explosions, or plain and simple theft? In the case of Iran, we sometimes fail to remember that any military asset passing through the country could be targeted by Israel or other unfriendly nation like Pakistan. There is no love-loss between Iran and its neighbors. Crude oil shipments are not explosive like refined fuels and munitions.

Western artillery barrels are designed for firing a handful of pristine shells a day at most, because that's all they ever needed for their expeditionary warfare against very weak countries. In contrast, Russian artillery barrels are designed for firing hundreds of varied-quality shells a day, because that's what's needed in attritional warfare.

Kind of? But not directly - not unless they are really bad. These shells are being made by tooling that is likely worn a lot. This means misshapen (tooling wears out unevenly typically) - that effects accuracy. The tooling being worn also means you may have under-sized shells (we are talking

Quality Control is an unknown concept for autocratic/marxist regimes. Unsupervised, mass production of munitions results in inconsistent firing, varying range, and improbable detonation. When matching these munitions with soviet era barrels and breaches, the odds of a catastrophic failure grows exponentially. But the problem doesn't begin on the battlefront. The unpacking and shipping of munitions via rail or on poor highways by truck are equally dangerous. With or without detonator fuses, high explosive shells are subject to premature explosions when stored near 'smokers' or illegal fires. Poorly trained and unsupervised conscripts are the most vulnerable. This war may end sooner due to Russian self-destruction than Ukrainian initiatives.

To be fair, except for a few exceptions, most of the NATO equipment that was originally supposed to be sent to Ukraine wasn't maintained. America sent equipment over the ocean faster than some NATO countries could get their equipment operational.

@@badluck5647 Good luck that western arms were produced by private firms, under contract, and thoroughly tested, in production batches, to assure a higher degree of quality control. I don't care how good the engineering is; you can't expect a tank to be operational after it spends years in storage without proper maintenance. Pretty much every NATO country that didn't hit their 2% spending target found this out when looking for equipment to send to Ukraine. Everything had to be repaired, and much of the equipment still wasn't working when it reached Ukraine.
